Eleven months of study is more effectiveeducation.
Semester system is widely admitted in modern education, in whichstudents can take about three months of holiday in sum every year. The speaker, however, claims that eleven months' study is more efficient than the currenteducation system. I understand his willing to improve education by increasingthe study time. Yet, I am on the opposite side to the suggestion. The reasons are as follows.
On one hand, I do not think simplyextending the learning hours will make sense. The quality of education dependson a series of elements. Briefly, those elements can be divided into the teaching method theteacher use, the study habit of the student, the interaction between theteacher and the student in class, and the content of education. In my view, none of those elements is affectedby the study time directly. For example, without a reasonable organized cycle,no matter if the study time every year is expanded to eleven months or not, theteaching will not be effective. So I don't think the speaker's advice willimprove the quality of teaching.
On the other hand, expanding the studymonths to eleven months means that the holiday time will be decreased to onemonth, and that may do no good to education. According to my experiences, areasonable use of the three months' holiday can enhance the affection of education.Last summer holiday, I went on a field trip to a program company, which helpedme carrying out the techniques I had learnt in class in real conditions.Without the two months' holiday, I couldn't have got the practice opportunity. Therefore, Idisagree with the speaker's idea that reducing the holiday every year to onemonth can make education more effective.
In sum, I disagree with the speaker's proposal that eleven monthsof study will bring more effective education. First, the speaker doesn't givesolid facts which support his idea that longer study time can cause improvementof education. Secondly, the possible loss caused by the decrease of holidaytime should be considered.
