TOPIC: ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."


The study of history is a hard but meaning process to know not only how we get here but also where we can go; the study of history answers the question not only who we are but also how we are; the study of history requires not only standing on where we are but also seeing from where we will be. Consequently, the study of history is of great value and importance to our daily lives, but not limited to daily lives.

Do every one understand how history influence, even decide, our daily life, which is one of the main tough goal of history study? Commonly, there are a lot of definition about "history", some say that "the past minute immediately become part of history", some say that "only history before fifty years can be called 'history'", whatever, there is a same character in them that now is coherent with the past.
For instance, China has a long history called Anti-Japan War in which the Community Party of China leaded all the Chinese people strive for the independent life, and the Chinese people won their new life and an new age of China, thus we can live a happy life now and become one of the important economics in the world. If the teenagers doesn't learn the history, they may take the rich life for granted without cherishing. And, this is where the value of study of history lies in related to our daily life.

However, not only the daily life has much to do with history, the scientific study would not going forward without the study of history. Demonstrably, Science is to improve human being's well-being with techniques, which is a field that always relies on but renews the past knowledge and invents or discoveries new one. Summarizing the classic dynamics and constructing his own dynamics structure, Einstein expanded the realm of physics and the relativity theory came to birth, which enabled human to explore the universe. The historic tool-the steam engine was not invented by James Watt but modified and completed by him on the former invention, which forced the history of human into a new epic. Similarly, Renaissance is bringing the Greek and Rome classic works up again in order to enlighten people with manhood. As many instances as we can cite, history accounts for the development of scientific study as well as the progress of human being.

Though history is very important to us, if we don’t pass it from generation to generation, the fast-changing world will forget or omit it to some extent. As nowadays people become more and more materialism, they allocate less and less time on studying history, even the research of history receive less and less money from government. It is not strange to hear someone say he didn’t know who wrote the “A Farewell to Arms”. But, learning nothing from the history means confusion or failure in the future, considering that if one didn’t remember that he had made a mistake, perhaps he would fail at the same point for many times which actually could be avoided. Therefore, the education and emphasize on history in society not only relate to our daily life of right now but also our future.

In sum, history contains all the aspects and has a profound influence no matter in the past, contemporary or future, no matter daily life, spiritual life or material life. History lends us what to do as well as how to do, of which the value is going to make a difference.
