186 The director recommend that Professional Printing Company should hire mainly older employees for they are more productive thus saving money of company. To support his recommendation, the director cited in the recent study of automobile factory that the young workers are more likely to productive with supervisor, while it is contrary for the old worker that fewer of old workers are productive with the supervisor. This recommendation seems logic, yet after clear scrutiny of it, I find this argument suffers from several flaws. To start with, the director unfairly assumes that the old workers are more productive than the young. The only evidence the director provide to support his reason that to hire older workers can increase productivity is the comparison of whether two groups of people
become more productive when supervised. Influence of the productivity of the old workers after supervised do not necessarily means that the olders have higher productivity than the yougers. Without more information about the present productivity of the older people and Secondly, the director's recommendation is unfairly based on the assumption that the automobile factory is compatible to Professional Printing Company. However, the director fails to provide evidence. It is possible that the automobile factory and professional Printing Company are two distinctively different manufacturers in many aspects that may diminish the influence of the strategy. Perhaps the Professional Printing Company has more advanced machines to work on requiring supervisors, thus old workers may make no sense to such condition and on the contrary the young workers who behave more productively are more likely fit for the jobs provided by Professional Printing Company. Without ruling out other possibilities, the director cannot convince me that the Professional Printing Company needs hire the olders. Thirdly, the director fail to provide information about the cost spent on employment, thus we can not evaluate whether the company will save money after the hiring. Without exact salaries provided to every older wokers, it is possible that the cost of workers may surpass the profits made by company, resulting deficit. To assess this recommendation, the director needs to make a profit analysis about the company. To sum up, the director of Professional Printing Company needs to provide more evidence about the different condition of two companies and more information about the productivity of two kinds of workers. To better evaluate the recommendation, I would need to know the cost and profits analysis of the company. |
