Scholars and researchers should focus on either individual interests or the larger society benefit. At the beginning of establishing research project, the scholars and researcher have to demonstrate the value and feasibility of the project. It mainly exists three factors influences on these: research capability, researcher's individual interests and possible impact on society. It is no doubt that interest has an important effect on every individual included scholars and researchers, however, if an project considers only one of them, especially
it seems unusual or idiosyncratic, it maybe an onesided project and hardly passes the demonstration. Besides, as an scholar or researcher, it is their responsibilities to make a contribution to the larger society.



Individual interest plays an important role in the process of studying. On the one hand, interests could help scholars and researchers find their new research topic. On the basis of two years experience of assisting my professor in studying , I find that there are two sources of study topic: invitation from related institute and individual interests. Whether accepting the invitation is usually depends on individual interests. On the other one hand, during this long and difficult process, interests could help scholars and researchers insistent even makes the study interesting. For example, when a journalist asks ChenNing Franklin Yang, a Noble Prize winner, what reasons make he persist in boring physics study, Yang asks a question in reply why it is boring? Because of interest, physics bothered so many students becomes pleasing in Yang's eyes.

Scholars and researchers have to consider their works' possible effect on society.  Firstly, either in history or in modern times, new ideas in the field of technology, ideology and others have big effect on society development. For example, steam engine leads people into mechanical ages; internet technology throughly changes people communication ways and make people's life more convenient than ever before. However, every thing has two sides, the effect of studying has double edges. Nuclear weapons are unique among weapons systems – they are capable of destroying civilization and possibly the human species. released a statement of nuclear weapon risk at the end of a conference held in Princeton in November 1946 that included the following : 1.preparedness against atomic war is futile, and if attempted will ruin the structure of our social order. 2. if war breaks out,
atomic bombs will be used and they will surely destroy our civilization.

Besides, in the view of social role, scholars and researchers have ability and responsibility to make the world to a better place. , Society makes study possible for scholars and researchers to proceed with their work by funding of science and also by cooperation in its execution. Besides, as the statement above, their works have so big and complicated influences on the society. In return, I submit, they should focus on the relationship between the practice of works and the larger society in which it is situated.

To sum up, in some extent, scholars have an strong handle on the nature of matter, sources of energy, the structure of life, and means for creating and changing life, their responsibilities are awesome. Additionally, because of important role of individual interests in the process of studying, scholars and researchers have to balance their interests and strong responsibilities.
