论点：同意作者的观点。尽管科学技术很发达，但仍有很多问题还没有办法用科学来证明的，此时，非主流的理念就起到了相当大的作用。而且非主流还可以从精神上给人安慰，激励等等。

I agree the speaker's assertion that nonmainstream areas act an important role in today's world. Although the science developing is so quickly and many questions that are unknown in the past have been solved, there are also many problems that are not explained now. At this time, the nonmainstram areas show up their significant function on both mainstream areas developing and citizen's lives.
It is absolutely that today's nonmainstream areas played as a central role in the old times. First, it is contribute to establishing a ideology system for people to think, despite of whether it is correct. Those methods helped ancestor to think about the world by a systematic way. Second, those nonmainstream areas which are mainstreams in old times contributed too many efforts to develop economy and stabilize countries. The contribution made in those fields cannot be ignored by us. With more and more problems solved by science today, the frame of those areas had been covered, however, had not been forget.
The nonmainstream areas also play an important role today by analyze ideologies occurred in the past and now. The nonmainstreams today are the procedure and foundation of today's mainstreams. It is because the old people point out an opinion that stimulated the latter to suspect it and many of the scientists, including most famous and outstanding, are believing those nonmainstreams given them power of courage and confidences. For instance, a famous example that Copernicus' sun-central theory beat Ptolemy's earth-central theory, both of which are not the nonmainstream theories today, led people to think which the central of the universe is. It is no doubt that the Ptolemy's theory brought about Corpernicus' theory, further led today's mainstream-astronomy. The fact that nonmainstreams brought mainstreams in the past can be continually used now, for the nonmainstreams can brought many unforeseen and unique thinking way and inspiration to today's researches which are aiming to solve those unknown problems. Therefore, the contributions made on today's mainstreams are significant,
The nonmainstreams can also make many positive affect on today's daily lives such as giving people comfort and courage. A very typical example is the way nonmainstreams explain death. The two sayings, “a person will go to the heaven after death if he does good things than bad, on the contrary, he will go down to hell" derived in western world, and "Putting down the knife becomes Buddha setting up" originated in China, showing that nonmainstreams are leading people to do good things, which benefit our society. Another example is a short story that many people know. One day, a burger met a fortune-teller when he tried to steal something. The fortune-teller did not tell the police, by contrary, he told the young man that if he can obtain one dollar by a people today, he may become a millionaire within 10 years. This prediction had come true. The kernel of this story is not to discuss whether fortune-teller really knows the future, but the positive affect on the young man. The nonmainstreams, like astrology and fortune-telling give people hopes when they fail and help them to claim up along the mountain with believing.
However, nonmainstreams may also do positive effect on the society, especially those territories founded on them which cause panic and destroy peace of the world. Those functions of nonmainstreams should be eliminated without doubt. Moreover, although nonmainstreams play such an important role, most of them will extinct with further sharply development in science.
To sum up, with rapid technology development in science, nonmainstreams areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, psychic and paranormal pursuits, have been replaced by mainstreams. However, their functions on developing the science and stabilizing the society are also very important.

The dispute about what role and how the non-mainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits, plays in today's society lasts so long. I concede that those areas still play some roles now, but I do not agree with the speaker's assertion that they play certain vital roles.
No one can deny that those non-mainstream areas contributed so much to the ancient society and some of the contributions are still useful today. Although non-mainstreams, most of which are not correct as we see today, they bring ancestors the way and system to thought and to solve their curious problems. They are, in some extent, satisfied ancestors curiosities and demands to acknowledge the world. Additionally, those non-mainstreams often play an important role to help rulers establishing, managing, stabilizing and developing their countries. Many historical reports can prove that many people who want to turn over a dynasty would turn to astrology, fortune-telling, for example, to convince common people to help them. Moreover, many things commonly used today were reformed based on those non-mainstreams' invention. Such as the calendar, whose forerunner was invented based on ancient research of astrology.
With increasing in people's curiosities and demands for unknown areas, the non-mainstreams can not satisfy people and the flaw-full non-mainstreams was suspected by more and more people. Gradually, a completely new system-science- had founded, which can satisfy people's needs in much larger spectrum. Science gives us more credible, authentic and rational way to acknowledge our world, and becoming the ruler and basis of today's world.
Now, in the science-rule world, non-mainstreams also play some roles such as comfort painful people and encourage disappointed ones. First, non-mainstreams, like paranormal pursuits, can give the people who lost parents, close friends, or true lovers comfort and ease themselves by considering that they can talk to the dead person. Second, fortune-telling can sometimes courage and give hopes to disappointed person, like the one who face bankruptcy, by telling them that everything will become alright in the future. All above-mentioned can prove the function non-mainstreams acted.
Admittedly, those non-mainstreams have something to do with today's society, however, we should have a clear view point that the role non-mainstreams played today is quite different from that of the past: people in the past consider the non-mainstreams as truth and correct ones that they believe in them, while people nowadays just consider them as a carrier to shift the choose and decision burdens which are caused by today's serious competitions and hard pressures. Rational people will not rely on those non-mainstreams but take on responsibilities to their actions.
It is surely that non-mainstreams cannot take place of science. For one thing, non-mainstreams may sometimes do harm to people. Those who run after non-mainstreams and over-believing them would lost their intellect and fighting will and cause distort in mental and severities which may damage the world. For another, the non-mainstreams which were based on unverified predictions are no longer believed simply by modern people most of who believe in science as it is based on credible, reliable and verified researches.
To sum up, unless science developed to the degree that can solve all the problems given by people and satisfy people's needs, such non-mainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits will not disappear completely. However, the functions that those non-mainstreams act nowadays are not that vital as speaker asserts. Moreover, the role of those non-mainstreams will be famed away by science.
