The author suggests that both parents and communities should be involved in the education except for those professional educators. Definitely, with more problems aroused in nowadays’ education, I find such suggestion is reasonable and needs to be carried out, of course, decently.

It is necessary to involve parents in today’s education, especially in elementary education because they know their children’s needs and interests better so that they can provide useful advices to orient children. We have to admit that children’s behaviors are much more complex than ever before, out of the various information filled in their daily life, out of more intense pressure laid on their shoulders, or even out of the great responsibilities the whole society endows to them, that teachers at school are not necessarily to understand each of them especially when he or she has 40 or above students in his or her class. In that case, if parents can be involved in, it’s much better to assist the teacher to know children’s motions, characters or specific talents, moreover, it’s helpful to release some of the teachers’ burdens.

Another threshold reason is concerning about the children themselves. Due to some causes, children nowadays are more cautious than ever before, they lack sense of safety to some extent, and not so optimistic and extrovert as their parents or grandparents in their childhood. In some American campuses, some students will bring guns to the school, the others will fall into love at quite early ages, all of the phenomena are too inexplicable to be explained by teachers and educators. What is even worse is that they are not willing to share their ideas with teachers, sometime will held inimical attitudes to them. Therefore, involving parents and communities in the education prove to be conductible based on several practical researches. Since children will be more communicated when they face with people who seems like bystanders to their studies, who can better understand their thinking, who seldom put them in the cruel comparison with other children.

Whereas, I should say that some of the disadvantages need our attention when we highly advocate the suggestion to involve parents and communities in the education. First of all, to be frankly, parents or communities’ staff are not professional educators themselves, they may use some unscientific methods to conduct education. Secondly, children are easily to be coddled or spoiled by their parents. Especially in China, most children are single child in the family who win most love from parents and grandparents. Unavoidably, some irrational parents will shelter children even they have done something wrong.

In summary, I think that we should analyze the merits or defects of involving parents and communities in our education. If we can grant parents and communities some correct instructions about education, such suggestion as the author cites will benefit our education in many aspects. (473 words/35 minutes)
