In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

提纲:
1.        用一个历史学家搞研究的例子开篇
2.        从记录的角度阐述各自特点
3.        从艺术角度阐述
4.        从教育角度
5.        总结,前后照应

If a historian wants to know the general idea of the Qing dynasty of China, and he is forced to watch TV only, how can anyone imagine he could possibly make it in this way? The television can never play the role of books in various aspects. In the 21st century, the importance of reading books isn't any less compared to the era before, instead, even more significant.

The television is the outcome of all the previous works of the scientists. On behalf of learning, it is actually providing another way of recording and indoctrinating. Compared with texts, TV recording of the conducts of human behavior is more objective, subtle, and accurate. The police, for example, would have to record the crime scene with photograph and videos. The most cogent testimony of the prosecution is through videos. With the whole process of committing the crime on the screen, hardly can a criminal deny his wrongdoing. However, the texts are able to give a general, abstract and insightful view, which can never be compensated by the camera records. Hurricane Katrina has killed more than 1,000 people, and the economic loss is over 100 billion dollars. If the video want to show people how many people died in this catastrophe, it has to go around taking picture of everyone in the area. As to the economic loss, there is no way for this abstract idea to be carried on in the form of video without texts.

Not only in the record do the television and text function differently, but also the in the art works. For the proving, one needs to look no further than the world-famous movie: Harry Porter. It is first published as a novel in books, which are enjoyed by many English-speaking people, especially the kids. The books have been the bestseller since the readers are attracted by the unbounded imagination of Rowling. The magic, black mages, school filled with wonders, and all the other great scenes, are loaded in the texts. The readers are enjoying the texts by their own imagination and they actually have constructed all the figures in the novel on their own. Since everybody shapes the figure on the basis of their own experience, education and culture, the workout of the detailed picture of Harry Porter varies from people to people. The movies of the same title, although globally adored, have also received many harsh words. Multitudes of the readers expressed their disappointment of the movie's failure to show their own picture bear in their mind through reading the books. Books, at this point, have been gifted by the undetailed sketch of the stories, and left the reader with room for self-composition.

For the education sense, reading books is definitely far better than watching TV. Despite the fact that both of them are interest oriented, TV programs are more entertaining, while books have always been the main media for the basic knowledge’s instruction. Turn on the TV at 8:00 pm, we would see those contents like TV play, cartoon, and raffle drawings, all of which are not intended for the education. Even if you find some documentaries, the lack of popularity would define its uselessness.

In my final analysis, the age of television is just an era where the methods of learning is expanded. The reading of the books, accompanied by the watching of television with the proper amount and content, would be the best way for an effective learning. Let's come back to the historian instance at the beginning. After a general view of Chinese Qing dynasty read in the book, the TV play and documentaries for that period of time would largely enhance the learning of him.

If a historian wants to know the general idea of the Qing dynasty of China, (老外可能根本不想know the general idea of the Qing dynasty of China) and he is forced to watch TV only, how can anyone imagine he could possibly make it in this way? (我觉得从这里开始是不是可以独立为一段)However, the texts are able to give a general, abstract and insightful view, which can never be compensated by the camera records. (觉得这个结尾有点奇怪,老外很有可能而且根本不想了解Chinese Qing dynasty, 而且觉得这个结尾不是很能证明结论。)
总体说来,觉得这篇文章写得不错,作者能够阐明论证自己的观点。
