TOPIC：ISSUE 103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
提纲：
1 我们没有必要去了解历史上那些已经过时的甚至无用的东西，尽管它们对当时的社会可能有深远的影响。
2 对于前人的成就的学习能使我们受益匪浅，现代的一切科学研究也立足于此。
3学习历史能使我们避免犯和前人同样的错误，在吸取经验的同时改变了我们对世界的看法。
4 学习历史有助于我们了解社会的演变，了解当今社会的文化习俗，理念及价值观。
People always underestimate the importance of studying history, even though in modern society its role of explaining and understanding changes of mores, values and ideas became no more abstraction. We cannot completely understand and appreciate the value of studying history only in consideration of whether it has necessary bearings with our current daily lives as the speaker claims. We should treat history study as a serious and careful work.

To begin with, many subjective elements affect our views to history study. It is true that people often found some useless and outdate information from the study. For example, learning monarchy is meaningless and even detrimental for our politicians as well as we live in such a democratic society. On the other hand, there is no need to know how profound and significant the 'carriage' influence transportation in the medium era as a vehicle. Because it was substituted with other new and efficient ones such as automobile, train and plane. Thus, the value of some achievements which has ever brought great and long impacts on people's daily lives in history might pale in comparison to the value of modern scientific accomplishments.

However, numerous valuable accomplishments made by our predecessors constantly influence out contemporary lives. Almost all our inventions and researches were based on these achievements. It is the breeding ground that all our humans would benefit knowledge from. Take Johannes Kepler’s  three theories of the movement of planets for instance. We all know that it is a millstone even challenge the magisterium at that time. Furthermore, it is the fundamental theory for all the current researches of astronomy, From the discovery of Halley’s comet to The Explorer 's landing on Mars, all of human's exploration to mystery cosmos cannot be splitted from the theory. Therefore, by studying the accomplishment of our predecessors, we can develop our recent researches and explorations to the unknown world.

Moreover, through learning about the mistakes of our forerunners, we can avoid committing them again. Based on the analysis of the reasons why they failed, we can better understand what we should do and not do, and also attentionally modify the ways we change the world. As we known, the two revolutions of industry strongly increased the productivity of human and significantly improve our living conditions. Nevertheless, we pay a high price for the country pollutions and exacerbation of our environment while enjoying the benefits from it. Considering our contemporary development of industry, historical experiences warn us that we cannot focus on the profits the factories brought us while ignores its heavily pollutions to our environment. By learning the history, we know more about our behaviors and our influence on the earth, and then we will take into account the pros and cons before we act.

The last but not the least, by studying history we can understand the evolution of our societies, the formation of our current value, legislation system, political movements and etc. History is a document that only provides extensive materials of human nature. In other words, studying history can help us better know ourselves and make sensible decisions for our future.

In sum, history witnesses the development of human civilization. Through learning it, we can be inspired by the accomplishments of our predecessors and elude committing the resemble mistakes of our forerunners. Moreover, we can better understand our current values, ideas and mores while neglect the worthless and banal matters in the history.
