TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

In terms of the speaker's assertion that only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each students,I partly agree with his claim that teaching according to the students' interests and needs could dig out the potential capability of students and help them make a better contribution in bettering our society, but the speaker ignores certain problems insofar as the feasibility and negative effects.
In the first place, there is no denying that education should pay more attention to individual students according to their own aptitudes. In terms of education itself, teaching according to the students' interests and needs will truly and effectively dig out the potential capability in certain academic fields. Only if students are interested in some subjects can they be in pursuit of knowledge rather than absorbing passively, education will get the best outcome. In order to illustrate this point, here are some examples which are really persuasive. Consider Chen Jingrun, one of the most successful and influential mathematicians in 20th century. Without the encouragement of his teacher when he was still a child by telling him a classical math problem which is really interesting, he may not find the right route of his life, let alone making any contribution to the justification of Goldbach’s conjecture.
However, the speaker goes too far to assert hastily without paying attention to the feasibility of this education approach, for the reason that the money and human resources is so limited and the there will exist some problem in evaluating students. How can we get to know the potential and interest exactly during arranging our curriculum? How can teachers meet the needs and interests of so many students with so limited resources? How to
identify
the quality and study level with so diverse educated students with taking different curriculum? Besides these problems,
if we let students themselves determine what they are going to learn, it may cause prejudice against some fundamental subjects which is not so lucrative, which may cause an unhealthy development condition of science and society. Besides, interest are not constant during their life time, it may change at different time in accordance with their life experience and the variation of their thought and view towards life and the world. Thus, generally speaking, with so many factors ignored in terms of this issue, the author cannot justifiably ensure the feasibility of this education approach.
Besides, the speaker ignores some possible negative effects if we attach too importance on specific education. If we pay too much attention to the specific education towards different students, we may ignore the importance of general education which is also essential not only in education for future career but also in perfect our individual moral and spirits. Metaphorically, the general knowledge is like the foundation of a building, the special curriculums are like the building out of the land, we cannot only focus on the appearance of the building, without knowing the foundation which keep our building stable and invulnerable. To illustrate this point, I can remind you that without the basic knowledge of language, scientist cannot be successful lacking the ability to publish his academic achievements; without the basic knowledge of culture, politics, or law, one economist cannot be possible to do any analysis of the social economy.
To sum up, I have to acknowledge that education should pay more attention to individual students according to their own aptitudes. Nevertheless, the speaker goes too far without paying attention to the feasibility of this education approach and the importance of general education.
