求助UCLA第一年奖学金情况

我打算申请2012年UCLA得urban planning，主要做交通方面，之前给系里主管admission的adviser发信，说一定要找一个一个faculty member来support admission.于是给一个跟我之前背景很相关的老师发信，今天得到回复说
Thanks for writing and for your interest in the PhD program at UCLA.  It does indeed sound like our interests overlap and I am looking to take on at least one additional PhD student next year.  But you should know that typically students take classes and do not work on research projects or TA classes in their first year of PhD studies.  Thus, the first year is often a difficult one for foreign students, as we have limited scholarship funding to support such students.  Subsequent years are typically easier financially, as students are able to work on research projects and TA courses.

Given your interests, I would encourage you to apply to our program.



我想请问一下 有人知道UCLA的urban planning第一年进去给奖学金的几率大么? 一般第一年是TA还是什么形式的奖学金呢？非常感谢！！
