1 As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

作文：
    As many significant technologies have been developed, it cannot be denied that people rely more and more on technology to solve problems. However, in my opinion, people just simplify these problems by technology and focus on how to solve these more efficiently and achieve further.
    It is true that today's technology bring people such convenient ways to solve problems that people can achieve their goals without a simple thought. For example, today we can deal with the dirty clothes by just press slightly on a button on the washing machine rather than wash them by hands before the wide popularization of the washing machine. Therefore the shortcut to solve problem by technology keep people from thinking.
    However, when it comes to the correlation between technology and the ability of humans to think for themselves, we cannot conclude justifiably draw the conclusion that the former corrupts the later seriously. If the claim in the statement is true, in this era filled with great achievement of technology, there must not be any new inventions. However, we can see that the number of the patents of invention in this era boom rapidly. Relying significantly on technology does not mean people stop thinking. Moreover, technology help people saving their precious time which would often be wasted to boring and meaningless repeating action and concentrate themselves on the serious problems they met in their work, lives, emotion and so on. These problems, in my opinion, take a more significant role in people’s lives and stimulate amazing creativities of people.
    In addition, technology can also help people to think. As an illustration, in computer science, the powerful computers, as a technology, release software developers from repeating calculation and concentrate themselves on algorithms, ways to solve a certain problem by procedures without concerning exact calculation. One of these algorithms is the MapReduce algorithm. This algorithm is the base of cloud computing which enables the user to obtain the service of the data warehouse through the Internet resource available everywhere in people's lives without setting up a huge data warehouse. Moreover, the cloud computing leads to a new Internet cloud era. And we can see how the technology brings out such a fantastic invention.
    Moreover, on the shoulder of giants people would have a broaden sight and see further. Just like a son inherits from his father the heritage which can benefit his professional career because it can offer him sufficient funds, technology is the heritage of the elder generation which can benefit people with vast convenience and offer people great knowledge to reach a further achievement. Without these technologies, people would have to be back to the beginning and could hardly make any eminent progress than their excellent predecessors.
    Although technology would keep people from thinking in these problems which can be solved by the technology, we cannot deny that technology would stimulate people's imagination. Just like the best friend of you, technology can help you and share his experience with you.

2 To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

正文：
   At many times, we should evaluate the characteristic of a society for sufficient preparation of a foreign travel or just simply for the curiosity of a certain society. In this statement, the author tell that study the major cities of the society will be an effective way to achieve this goal.
  It is true that the major cities of a certain society are representative to this society. For example, Beijing, as a capital of China, represents the fantastic huge political system of China, which is famous for its unwieldy political system. Moreover, the Great Wall and Forbidden City in Beijing also can reflect a long history and distinctive culture of China. Shanghai, as an economic center of China, represents the economic prosperity of China. Therefore, through studying these major cities, one can get knowledge of many remarkable respect of a society just in a short time.
  However, we cannot deny that these major cities can only reflect part of a society not a comprehensive one. Otherwise, we can draw the conclusion that there is no poverty in China based on the observation of Shanghai while many families in the poor districts of China cannot even afford the tuition of primary school. Major cities are the result of the accumulation of political power and society wealth. Therefore, limiting the study of the major cities will circumscribe the comprehensive interpretation of a society. Racial prejudice would be perfectly belied in the major cities. Great number of unemployment will be selectively neglected in major city which can offer enough jobs for their citizens or in which the unqualified citizens without jobs cannot afford the high life expenditure of the major cities and have to move to another relatively small city. All these problems will be neglect when only study the major cities of the society.
   In my opinion, one who wants to get a thorough understanding of a society should concerns not only the major cities but also the problems the civilians being faced with. Civilian is the base of the society. Most characteristics of a society originate from that of civilians. And the problems the civilians being faced with can often reflect characteristics of the society involving economic, culture, politics. For example, in China, the hottest problem that people concern with is the high house price. In the cultural aspect, the concept of family of Chinese is based on the house belonging to the couple. Thus, most couples would not get married unless they have owned a house. Consequently, the price of the house become higher and higher because the demand of the house rise to meet the need of marriage of young couples. However, in the economics aspect, great profit of the house transaction attracts many investors. More and more funds rushed into the house market, thereby raise the house price. Finally, in the politics aspect, the increasing of the house price takes an important role in the national economy, so the government will issue many policies to maintain the growing of the house price.
   On one hand, major cities can show a brilliant achievement of a society to the observers. On the other hand, Civilian problems can provide rich examples for the observers to touch the real characteristics of a society. Without either of them, the study of a society cannot be perfectly completed.
