69"Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development"
The speaker makes the assertion that it is better for government to place few, even no restrictions on scientific field. Facing the controversial issue, in my observation, scientific technology would develop much faster without the interruption of government. While in certain aspects, it is dangerous if scientific research goes beyond boundaries by making the world into a chaos. Therefore, it is important for government to be clear which should be forbidden in the scientific world.
Admittedly, the speaker's claim is reasonable if we keep our eyes on the scientific exploration and development. No body would like to be restricted, especially those crazy scientists. To begin with, without restrictions, they can contrive whatever they want. It is such good news for scientists that they no longer need to think too much about virtual problems. And all they need to do is concentrating on their interested scientific research. Moreover, scientists can also freely use funds getting from the government and some sponsors to buy any material, equipment, and even confidential technology. There is little doubt that under the circumstance, scientists can totally turn their talent into impressive inventions, which is significantly helpful for the development of technology.
Nonetheless, thinking twice about this assertion that government should place few restrictions on the development and research of science, people should realize the side effects of this issue. Without laws and regulations, our world would be filled of violence. Equally, without suitable restrictions on scientific technology development and research, our world would be in chaos, when morality, humanity, and environmental protection are taken into account.
When the masses enjoy the convenient life benefitting from technology, isn't it necessary that they give some consideration to those highly dangerous inventions which are almost out of control? Taking chemical and biological weapons for example, although they are powerful weapons to defeat the energy, it would also kill hundreds and thousands of innocent animals and plants, by polluting the environment around the target area. If this kind of weapon can not be controlled on time, all the species, including human being, will face extinction in the near future. Therefore, government’s limit on this kind of scientific exploration is highly remarkable. On the other hand, on moral aspects, government did a good on clone technology. Thanks to the restriction on cloning human bodies. Without this legislation, the traditional notion about family, generations, marriage, dignity, naturality would be highly challenged. Different from scientists, leaders in government are responsible to restrict development on scientific technology on certain aspects for keeping the balance of our world, or our society would be in chaos.
In conclusion, contrary to the opinion of the lecturer is my heartfelt agreement to the real fact that government should play a appropriate role in controlling the balance of the society, at least to some extent. Too many or too few restrictions on scientific research and development are neither perfect enough, when morality, humanity, environmental protection and other aspects are taken into consideration.
