The topic of this article is very popular in recent days. As we all know, the climate conference in Copenhagen attracted the focus all over the world. A new agreement is expected to sign for avert the threat of climate change.  In this article, the author cites a typical example that the mountain bark beetles destroy the pine forest in British Columbia due to the high temperature. Actually human activity should be responsible for the increased frequency of climate change. Especially the concentration of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas is much higher than before, which may result in a global temperature increase. Furthermore, the aberrant temperature may increase the frequency of serious climate changes that are dangerous. To avert this situation people should adjust its behavior. Technological tools and economics are not limitation for taking action. However, politics plays key role in promoting improve recent situation. Instead of signing a huge protocol that would never work, the government should implement a pragmatic deal efficiently and effectively. This passage is very well-organized to illustrate the author’s idea. The key point is that the author calls for taking practical action to prevent the bad trend of global warming.

Even in the most developed country United States, governments are expected to build up a complete medical system, which ensures the majority of people could benefit from it. Firstly, the essential problem is the coverage of medical insurance. The private insurances have very serious standard to be involved. Elder people or people suffer from pre-existing medical conditions are impossible to benefit from private insurances. However, the new reform promotes to break this limitation, which broads the benefit ranges. In China’s reform, the government also gives access to everyone, such as elder people and children, farmers and laid-off workers, to have medical insurance. The second problem which is urgent to address is the fairness of medical insurance. The expense of this great bill is from taxpayers. Yet the people who don’t have any contribution to the tax also could have the insurance. Thus, it’s a dilemma between the coverage and the fairness. Making a balance is an obviously most difficult issue that has to be done.

This article talks about the problem that involves in every country-the global financial crisis. As we all know, this financial disaster brought widely difficulties for countries to recover. However, the world economy is recovering. Since the past losses are much larger than future gains, the effect of could not be seen very soon. In the state of California, the state government cut has filed for bankruptcy. And it had cut much of the spending in education, which makes difficult for faculties to apply for funding. Furthermore, the graduate schools admit less international students than before. Thus, the disadvantage since financial crisis happened is the decrease number of scholarships which may bring economic burden for oversea students to study abroad. There arise two different views of American’s attitude dealing with China. One is that China is a potential threat to America. And the other is China is still dwarfed by America’s although China is developing very fast. At the beginning of this article, the author inferred what Obama said that the position of America on China will be more determined the future of itself. And the cooperation between these two huge countries is vital to solving the world’s problems. However, at the latter half part of this essay, the main point is that China still has plenty of problems within the country to deal with in social, political and economic fields. Obviously, the author’s preference is very much for the point that China is still a dwarf which could not be a threat to America.
In fact, this is the first time that I’ve read the passage that expresses the position of American’s on China. Some viewpoints seemed ridiculous to me. They find that China is developing very fast but they refuse to accept parts of the facts. That one thing I learned from this passage is that although we have growing financial muscle, we still lag far behind as technological innovators. I think that’s why the government encourages the creative and innovative work now. There is still a long way to go for our great country.

This debate is relevant to a widely discussed topic that executives are overpaid. Firstly, the moderator opened the topic and presented the main points of the proposer and the defender. Then, the proposer and the defender stated their ideas subsequently. Actually, I think that the statement of one’s opinion for the first time is the same way with writing an issue. The presenter or the author establish his/her own viewpoint, and then use some relevant examples to illustrate his/her ideas. In this debate, the proposer concluded that the pay of CEO in recent years didn’t increase. Contrast to the other groups, such as professional athletes and hedge fund, the pay of CEO decrease as the financial crisis brought severe injury to the economy. The second point of the proposer is that the pay of CEOs had a high relationship with the performance of themselves. While, the defender thought that excessive executive compensation was both a symptom and a cause of the current economic mess. In order to demonstrate his idea, the defender takes Michelle and McClendon as examples to show that the pay of CEOs is determined by the performance. This is the first round of the debate. Each side has valid reasons and examples. However, there are still some questions need to be clarified.

It is hard to forecast the taste of people in art.  Nowadays, the realism seems more popular than other art styles. Comparing with the contemporary art, the pictures of realism remain the style of old-fashion, cluttered and sentimental. The buyers in all different sectors follow a pattern that would like to pay over the odd for top-ranking pictures. A dealer, Mr. Mason, indicated that the inflation of economy would be the art dealers’ friends, which means that the sale of art markets would prosperous during the inflation. The examples of Spencelayh’s picture “The old dealer” and Knight’s picture “on the cliffs” give us a picture that the buyers tend to bid up the price and pay for them in much higher prices than expected. In my viewpoint, the appearance of this aberrant phenomenon could attribute to the attitudes of people toward art. During the inflation, almost everything would lose its origin value. While people consider the art works are the most steady and valuable things that could keep the buyers’ wealth. As a result, the prices of art works are much higher than that were estimated before.

As I have mentioned last time, the first round of the debate likes making an issue task. While in the rebuttal statement, both sides seem to write arguments. Especially, in the part of the proposer the whole structure of his remarks could be regarded as an argument. First, he concludes the points of the defender. Then he points out several unreasonable points and refutes each one in details. For the content of this debate, I can’t fully understand all the points and the examples that the proposer and the defender cite. What I have got form this rebuttal remarks are including following points: first, the top executives play key roles in the management and operation. Their compensations are much higher than the rank and file, which is determined not only by their performances. During the financial crisis, many executives were fired by the boards. But they could gain a large amount of money for their retirement. Meanwhile, others are suffering the difficulties that the recession brought.

The Internet is widely used in our daily life and also for the business purpose. It gives access to improve the efficiency of work and bring huge convenience to the rank and file. However, many people refuse this new life style because they are worried about the safety of their assets. Actually, the current situation of the Internet is not very well. Many hacks steal the passwords from others’ computers, which may lead to the loss of money in their accounts. In order to protect ourselves from being stolen, we could adopt a safe code which is difficult for hacks to crack. The main factors of strong password are a good length, complexity and randomness. Taking my own case as an example, last year I made a friend majored in computer science online. At the second time we chatted, I was surprised by his understanding of me. He knew my university, my hometown, and even the type of cell phone that I used. He told me that all he knew is from google. As I almost use the same logon in different website, it is easy to get all the information. After then, I knew that the complexity of my logons and passwords are indeed poor. Today’s topic is very fresh and familiar to me at the same time. This essay introduces a book The Faith Instinct to us. The author, Mr. Wade, masterly combines the study of religion with evolutionary biology to explain his viewpoint. He cites the theory of Darwin and applies it to human society. In my opinion, the evolution of society is similar to the evolution of individuals more or less. In the wild, different kinds of creatures change their physical structure or living habits in order to adapt the surroundings. People are struggling for surviving in this competitive society. Religion could give supports to people who need help to overcome psychological difficulties and cheer them up. Although almost all religions are concerned in vary degrees with metaphysical ideas, I don’t think it is controversial with science. As I know, many thoughts and sayings in different religions are very useful, which may guide us behave properly.
