The editor believes that once they play more music composed by Richards and feature more modern music in the future, the advance ticket purchases will increase as well as the attendance at the concerts. Grounding on the mere fact that the advance tickets purchases have declined, the editor simply puts forward such conclusion that the community support lacks and they should also change their music choices. These reasonable consequences at first glance are actually lack enough logical supporting.
Firstly, the author wrongly equals the number of advance tickets purchases to the community support. He fails to think of such possibility that people are so busy during this time that they forgot to book advance, however, they still attend to the concert as before, maybe even a larger number of audiences are reached. What is more, booking in advance may cost more money that people do not want to waste it possibly because they are in small financial problem that although it does not affect their concert appreciation but they want to save as much as possible. And with more possibility, people are getting lazier year after year, they just want to buy a ticket and go into the concert to enjoy the music, booking seems redundant.
Secondly, even if the community support has diminished, the author unfairly assumes that weather can not be the main reason. He indicated that whether these years have been unpredictable, but what if the music is mostly played outdoors, shall some listeners come during rainy or snowy days? Although many people attended even in bad days, possibly because they are concert manias or they have such high zest for their concert that they would not miss any one. However, most people can not be so infatuated, they come to the concert just because they want to enjoy some music in good weather and get a pleasant mood. Since weather gets so bad, they can totally have fun at home as they can listen to the radio, CD and so on. In this way, the supporting will out of question declined. So how can the author exclude such reason before more investigation is made?
Thirdly, the editor is too hasty to reach the conclusion that choice of music should be responsible for the declines or Richard’s music will solve the problem. Before comprehensive investigation on the community what kind of music are to their taste most, he can not so opinionated to draw a conclusion that they should adopt more modern music in the future, what if people here are mostly fond of classical ones? This strategy will undoubtedly makes things worse. Simultaneously, residents here in Glenville buy more recordings of Richards does not mean that they would like to listen to them in the concert. Maybe they just like to listen to them on recordings rather than live ones. Besides, no evident is shown that more recordings mean that residents here do enjoy his music, maybe it is just a kind of fashion and people here would like to chase fashion or possibly they buy his recordings as presents to their friends or families in other cities instead of their own listening.
In sum, I think the editor is rather irresponsible since his conclusions are so much filled with logical flaws, once they are adopted; worse situation is possibly coming forth. While in my opinion, before detailed number is putting forward that the people who come to the concert indeed decline or the audiences really concede that they do not mind any kind of weather but the music played before were not to their flavor, they really would like to appreciate Richet’s, hardly can I say yes to his strategy, let alone such strategy will undoubtedly increase the advance purchases as well as attendance at the concerts. |
