The lecture revises the idea that presented in the text that private collectors make negative effort to the significant fossils.

The reading passage raises the issue that the private collector will collect most of the fossils. Therefore the public will have less opportunity to see the fossils. However, this statement called into question by the lecture which provides further evidence that the private collector let the fossils no less exposure, since they find more fossils and have to sell them. Moreover, the public school and libraries have chance to derive some fossils which is no expensive.

According to the reading passage which argues that the private collectors induce the scientists are not able to access the fossils. So the scientist will miss some essential discoveries. But the professor goes on to maintain that it is impossible to the private collector identify the fossils because they do not know how to test them. So if the private collector wants to classify the fossil should find the scientists to help them. Eventually the scientists will have chance to access to the fossils and develop their researches.

The reading passage asserts that private collector will not care about the fossils so that the fossils will be damaged. Nevertheless the professor demonstrates that the private collector found many fossils, but nearly no university or scientific institution to find the fossils. So the private's contributions is overweight their negative effect on the fossils discovery.

All these information point to that the private collector make positive impact on the discovery of some vital fossils

In the lecture, the professor presents three reasons to explain why there is a decline in reading literature books. Her reasons are as follow.

To begin with, the professor says that people now have more choices to read good books such as the book on history, science, art() and so on, which may also stimulate readers’ imagination as the literature book does. Although there is a decline in literature book, the reading quality increases. On the contrary, the text says people cannot benefit from book if they don’t read literature book.

Secondly, the professor claims that the culture changes and it has many other new ways to form. People watching movies and listening to music can also learn about culture. While, the text states people will have a lower level of culture if they spent time on entertainment.

Last but not least, the professor admits the literature is obtaining less support now, however, readers should not be blamed. It is the authors’ fault because(that) the books on literature are more and more difficult to read so that fewer and fewer readers will choose to read literature book. In contrast, the text blames the readers to the decline of literature books.

The lecture revises the idea presented in the text, that salvage logging play positive effect on a damaged forest and on the economy

The reading passage raises the issue that the dead trees will spend a lot of time to decomposed, so the new trees will have no space to live. However this statement called into question by the lecture provides further evidence that it is not necessary to remove the dead tree, since after the decomposed the dead trees will produce a suitable area where have more nutrient to feed the new trees.

According to the reading passage that dead tree will induce the number of some bad insect increase, so the forest will be in danger. But the professor goes on to maintain that the dead trees not only let the number of insect increase, but also the number of the bird or others kind of animals will also enrich. And in long-term, removing the trees will do more harm to the forest than increasing of the number of the insect do.

Finally the reading passage asserts that the companies can sell the tree in order to make much money and should produce some additional position for unemployment. Nevertheless the professor demonstrate that the dead tree is without worth, since the companies should spend a huge mount of money to maintain the low-quality wood for lasting long. Moreover this process of maintaining work asks for some experienced workers, so the companies should pay a lot of money to train the worker.

All these information point to the salvage logging will not easily make benefic from the damaged forest.

The professor uses some points to refute the reading passage that salvage logging has lots of merits.

First, the reading passage sates that dead trees can be removed so that they can provide more space for the growth of other trees. Nevertheless, the professor indicates that soil can absorb nutrients from these decomposed trees. And other trees would extract nutrient from the soil.

Second, in the reading passage, the author presents those dead trees would appeal the insects which are harmful for other all living trees. However, the professor says that these is an evident showed that these pests cannot cause large damage to forests. these Mmany bird and other insects, which live in dead trees, contribute to the recovery ing of forests.

Finally, the reading passage suggests that because of salvage logging, more jobs can be provided for the residents. On the contrary, the professor challenges that this is only a temporary situation. Salvage logging companies not only would use helicopters to remove these dead trees, but also would hire people who have expertise training.

In the lecture, the professor casts doubts on the portrait and he insists that the evidences given by the text show no connection with the painting. His reasons are as follow.

To begin with, the professor claims that it is 17(70这个数字错的很严重啊) years later after the Austen family gave permission to use the portrait for the painter. (继续错)That is to say, the painter(又错) had never seen Jane Austen when she was alive. So the girl in the portrait cannot be Jane. On the contrary, the text says the girl in the portrait is Jane.原以为这个观点听的还比较清楚,谁知错的最离谱。改正:To begin with. The professor says Jane has been dead for 70 years already when the Austen family gives permission to the portrait. So that the family member, who asserts the girl in the portrait is Jane, may have never seen Jane and cannot make sure whether it is Jane in the portrait. That is totally contradicted to the text.

Secondly, the professor explains that the Austen’s family was very large, there are(were) many teenagers in the family, so that someone could have resembled Jane in the portrait and maybe it was just Jane’s sister(distance cousin). However, in the text, they believe that the girl(in the portrait) is so much like the full-length portrait of Jane(Cassandra’s sketch). Thus the (+subject of the) portrait must be Jane’s(不要).

Finally, the professor mentions that the stamp on the portrait showed the painting was sold by William 27 years after he saw Jane. It indicates that William had never seen Jane when she was a teenage girl. But the opinion on the text is totally different. 理解啊,天啊。改正:Finally, the professor mentions an evidence that the stamp on the back of the portrait shows the canvass used by the portrait was sold by William. And William didn’t sale it when he was in London
and Jane was a teenage girl, but he started selling when Jane was 27 years. That’s indicate that Jane is older than the girl in the portrait. On the contrary, the text only presents the evidence that the style of the portrait links to Humphrey.

To sum up, the professor points out three different statements to challenge the girl in the portrait is not Jane Austen.

额的天啊,原以为这篇听的还凑合,谁知道重听后才发现理解偏差太大了啊。。。。

In the lecture, the professor believes the benefits of commercial buying of fossils(commercial fossil trade) outweigh its disadvantages. While, the text totally hold the opinion that the commercial use of fossils only bring disadvantages to us. The professor’s reasons are as follow.

To begin with, the professor points out that private collectors buying fossils will make the fossils more exposure to the public, contradicted to the text which is said public will lose access to the fossils. The professor tells that, more schools and libraries can buy their interested (interesting) fossils for exhibition that more publics will be able to view the fossils.

Secondly, the professor mentions that the scientists won’t lose access to the fossils because every fossil will have to go through the scientific expertise by the scientist before private collectors’ purchase. Thus, scientists could obtain the data as well. That’s different from what the text talks about.

Finally, the professor says it is because so many fossils are still undiscovered that the number of the fossils is not so large. The locations of more fossils are still unknown so that many scientists are trying to work on them. However, the text blame the private collectors’ destroys to the low number of the fossils.最后这段没听明白,基本是自己编的。又听了几遍,还是不太确定。如果有scripts就好了。改正:Finally, the professor says the some destroys the commercial collectors made are because many of the fossils are undiscovered and there aren’t institutions run for the collecting. Thus, it is better for the scientists to have more fossils than the data of the locations and other materials. On the contrary, the text insists the private collectors bring damages to the fossils.

In the lecture, the professor cast doubts on the statement in the text that a four-day workweek will be welcomed by both the employees and the company with the following reasons.

To begin with, the professor claims the company will have to spend more money on the four-day workweek policy, such as the training, the medical cares and so on, which the company will have to pay the same money on the five-day workweek. Besides, the professor mentions that the workers will occupy more space and computers that directly decrease the profits of the company. However, the text holds a different opinion that the company will spend less and will have higher profits.

Secondly, the professor says that more workers mean more cost of the company.(TS错了,改为:the four-day workweek doesn’t follow what they expected.) Because the five-day workweek workers cannot finish the job in four days, so that the company has to hire more workers or pay more for the overwork salaries. (这句也有问题,改为:There aren’t many jobs available and the company may ask the workers to work over time to make up the differences because they start to expect the workers can finish the five-day job in four days, so that the job will be much more unpleasant for the workers.)While, the text believe the workers can accomplish the five-day work in four days and increase the profits of the company, which is totally different from what the professor says.

Last but not least, the professor points out that the employees will have to suffer more risk. Because when the work time reduced, less job and less opportunities are offered to them. So that the four-day employees are affected by the policy instead of benefiting from it. On the contrary, the text says the four-day workweek policy provides not only more time for workers to relax but also more work opportunities.

To sum up, the professor explains his contradict opinions on the above aspects to challenge what the text mentions.

第二段有点问题,听的时候没怎么记下了逻辑关系,也没听大明白。
还是听力的问题!!

In the lecture, the professor holds the opinion that work in a team doesn’t always bring benefits, which is different from what the text says, with the following reasons.

To begin with, the professor claims that some of the team members will have a free ride and make no contributions to the team work although the team finishes the work successfully. The real contributors will have an opposite attitude towards the success of the team and feel unfairly. However, the text ignores this aspect and believe there a wider ideas and solutions to the team work.

Secondly, the professor wonders the efficiency of the team work. Because people hold different opinions so that it will cost a lot of time to have a meeting or discussion about the final decision. On the contrary, the text says people will come up with ideas quickly so that the work can be finished efficiently.

Last but not least, the professor mentions that people in the team will sometimes unable to carry out their good ideas. When most of the team members support the same idea, though one’s idea is perfect, the majority of people still ignore the perfect idea so that the man has to drop his idea. And when the work fails, all the members will be blamed. However, the text believes the man with the good idea may have the chance to “shine” and may feel better when he comes up with a good idea. That’s totally different from what the professor says.这一段的大意好像基本没问题。找来OG的范文对照下。
OG上的第三个观点的范文:
Third, influential people might emerge, and lead the group towards glory or failure. If the influential people are going in the right direction there would be no problem. But in cases where they go in the wrong direction, there is nobody that has enough influence to counter the decision made. In other words, the group might turn into a dictatorship, with the influential party as the leader, and might be less flexible in thinking. They might become one-sided, and thus fail to succeed.

In the lecture, the professor points out that the benefits of the dead wood after a forest fire is more than disadvantages. She also claims that there is no need to dealing with the dead trees. Her following opinions are totally opposite to the text.

To begin with, the professor mentions that the dead trees won’t take up the space and the soil will obtain much nutrient which is good for tree growth. However, in the text, it is said that the dead trees damage the environment of the new trees.

Secondly, the professor admits that the population of the insect is increasing but it won’t do harm to the health of the forest. Because some of the insects are the real contributors of the forest such as birds. On the contrary, the text mentions we should remove the rotting wood to decrease the dangers of insect infestation.

Last but not least, the professor says that the salvage logging only brings small economic benefits and it won’t last long. What’s more, the local residents may not be able to do the industry work because they lack of training. The text says salvage logging will not only bring benefit in economy but also bring more jobs to the local people. That is different from the professor’s statement.
