3. wide range academic information & traditional: limited space

The professor uses some points to refute the belief in the reading passage that communal (要记住专有名字不要乱改。)online-encyclopedias’ disadvantages overweight the advantages.

Firstly, the reading passage says that because of the limited academic knowledge of the contributors,(大错特错~扭曲事实!!直接提出argument 更直接。)
online-encyclopedias contain a lot of mistakes. On the contrary, the professor states that these errors can be corrected easily, because people can access the web very conveniently. But if the traditional encyclopedias have mistakes, people would pay little attention on them, because it is difficult to find out and correct it.

Secondly, the professor challenges the idea in the reading passage that the online-encyclopedias give the people chances to fabricate the facts deliberately. In fact, the editors can eliminate these false information.(少了一个论据format cannot be changed by others.)

Finally, contrary to the reading passage that online-encyclopedias cannot provide enough depth information, the professor says that online-encyclopedias have wide range of information, so people can gain broad knowledge, and can be attracted by different aspects. In addition, because of the limited (space)page, traditional encyclopedias contain less information than the online-encyclopedias, because of it has limited editor.

All these arguments, which presented above, point to the merits and drawbacks of the online-encyclopedias and the traditional-encyclopedias.

The reading passage supports the idea that communal online encyclopedia have several important problems that make them much less valuable than traditional, printed encyclopedias. While the speaker views that the communal online encyclopedia really does something.

Firstly, the passage thinks that communal online encyclopedia often lack academic credentials and often inaccurate in many cases. However, the speaker reckons that it is easily to errors to be corrected to the online encyclopedia. But traditional encyclopedia never closes to accurate.

Secondly, the passage believes that the communal nature of these online encyclopedias gives unscrupulous users and vandals or hackers the opportunities to fabricate and corrupt information in the encyclopedia. In the contrary, the speaker says that they recognize the importance of protecting their articles of<for> hacker. And the tragedy is <put the crucial facts in the articles that nobody disputes in the >format, which is the format that no one can change it. Because<That will make you sure that the > scrupulous facts  in articles are reliable. Then the other tragedy being used is specific<special> attitude.

Finally, the reading material holds the view that the communal encyclopedias focus too frequently, and in too great a depth, on trivial and popular topics. Nevertheless, the speaker feels that the problem is <that they have limited >space. Encyclopedias should decide whether it is important or not<what's important or what's not>. <The academic articles are represented in the online encyclopedias, but they cannot be a great variety of articles, topics that acurately reflect the great diversity of usual interests. The diversity that online encyclopedia offer is their strongese advantages.>

To sum up, the speaker’s attitude is totally different with the reading material.

Reading部分还是没有记笔记,但这次看的不太明了,阅读能力还需加强。

2.

In the lecture, the professor talks about three reasons that challenging the views in the reading material that the wood companies in the US won’t adopt ecological practices. The reasons are as follow.

To begin with, the professor claims that the customers in America do not trust the trade advertisement in fact, they buy their own needs …这段完全没听明白,最后那个句子好长。改:To begin with , the professor claims that the customers in American do not treat all the advertisements the same. (They distinguish between the products claims by the company itself and the products claims by the independent certification agencies. 作文里可省略,听力的内容)What’s more, they are in favor of the products claims by the independent certification agencies. This view is totally different from the passage.

Secondly, the professor admits that the customers are motivated by the price, however, if the two products have small difference in price, they may choose the ecological product for it has great value in environment. On the contrary, the passage says the production companies will keep the prices lowby saving the money on obtaining ecocertificationto satisfy the customers’ needs.

Finally, the professor mentions that it is the foreign competition(not the foreign customers) that makes the companies attend in the ecological practices. If they never produce ecological product, the foreign companies will make up most of the market. Thus, the companies in US begin to pay attention on the ecological practice. That is opposite to the view in the passage.

To sum up, the professor points out three opinions that are contrary to the reading materials.

总结:
1.
阅读能力要加强,文章长的时候,一定要认清关键性语句。
2.
听力要听细致,并且要分清中心句,细节内容不记得的时候编的不能太离谱,或者选择放弃也好。

2.ec-- price rise
3.market in the US

Listening
1. can distinguish
2. price vibrate little
3. reduce foreign competition](第一遍没听懂)

The professor uses three points to refute the idea in the reading passage that ecocertification didn’t make sense for wood companies.
Firstly, the reading passage states that because advertising of ecocertification is rampant, American would pay little attention to this ecocertification. Nevertheless, the professor refutes that American can distinguish and have the abilities to value this advertising.

Secondly, in the reading passage, it says that wood companies should pay the money to ecocertification, so they would increase the price. And the consumers probably would choose wood companies which have no ecocertificaiton, but have lower price. However, the professor challenges that the different price between lower price and higher price would not be very large. On this point, consumers would be more likely to compare other aspects of wood companies than the price.
Finally, the reading passage says that wood companies sell their products mostly in America, so it’s unnecessary to have ecocertification. On the contrary, the professor states that if America wood companies have no ecocertification, they may lose their competition abilities when foreign companies with ecocertification rush into American market.

The reading passage raises the issue that the consumers of America will not believe the advertising, since a huge number of mediocre products’ advertising is exaggeration or disclaim. However, this statement is strongly questioned by the lecture the professor argues that because many companies really want to produce independent product which is really more ecological and in order to produce more compete product, they will not cheat the American consumers(噢走题了,advertising is different ,the people will trust the wood product ecologically certified by an independent organization with an international reputation for trustworthiness)

It was said in the reading passage that the American consumers will prefer to buy the cheaper uncertified wood product, therefore companies will not intend to attain ecocertification. However, the professor in the lecture demonstrates that the price will not became the main factor that the American consumers concerted, since the price of the certified wood products will just increase 5%.More important, the American are very care about the environment of the world, and intend take the responsibility of protection.

Finally, the reading passage asserts that American companies are just sell their product in American so that will not really attend this international protection activities. Nevertheless, the professor deems that as he said above the companies want to stand out of the competitors in international business fields, therefore they firmly want to join this actives and obviously will purchase certification. (噢,走题了,没有说到别人会侵占。没有说American consumer really interesting in this project)

Form what the professor discussed above, we can know that the American companies will glad to attend this meaningful actives which will protect our planet.

笔记:
Reading
1.        not attention,do not trust, “new” “improve”
2.        expensive  consumers ,so keep lower  companies
3.        not sell abroad

2.        not main ,product 5%,do choose, A value ^ envior

Reading 的笔记依旧没记,用3分钟认真的看了一遍。
Listening notes:
1.
not poor, sell first, borrow
2.
write down everything, keep notes, refer to them, regularly notes.
3.
other have more poli relater, cannot escape, repair after escape.
听力的时候重在听,虽然记的不大全,但写作的时候能够回想起来。

In the lecture, the professor points out three opinions that challenging the view in the passage that Chevalier invented many events which were not really true in his life in order to attract readers’ interests.

To begin with, the professor states that Chevalier was very wealthy when he lived in Switzerland. Chevalier did borrow some money from friends because he had to sell first, therefore, it cannot indicate he is poor. That is totally different from what the passage says.

Secondly, the professor mentions that Chevalier wrote down every notes about the conversion with Voltaire so that he can remember details when he later wrote the book. On the contrary, the passage doesn’t believe he can write every details about the conversion.

What’s more, the professor says that the other prisoners who had more powerful politic connected friends were still unable to escape. In addition, the prison repaired the hole after Chevalier escaped. Therefore, Chevalier must have made a hole and climbed through the roof to escape. In contrast, the passage insists Chevalier escaped with the help of his friends.

To sum up, the professor analyzes the plots in Chevalier’s book are true with three views talked above, which contradicts the views in the passage.

In the lecture, the professor explain his opinions to challenging the statement in the text that the fuel-cell engine will replace the internal-combustion engine, though he admits the advantages of the hydrogen-based engine. His reasons are as follow.

To begin with, the professor believes the hydrogen cannot be easily available, because the hydrogen is not directly useable, and it is artificial to make and hard to produce and store the liquid hydrogen for use. While, the text ignores the disadvantages. artificial这句没怎么记住

Secondly, the professor states that the hydrogen-based fuel cannot solve the pollution problems either. Using the hydrogen-based fuel may not produce air pollution, however, the factory which works to get higher hydrogen have to burn coal and oil, so that there will be a lot air pollution as well. That is contradicted to the text.

Finally, the hydrogen-based fuel is too expensive to afford for most of the drivers. Because the hydrogen is more rare than petrol so that drivers have to pay more on the fuel. 这里听理解错了,应该是because the hydrogen-based engine needs a rare and expensive resource metal to manufactureAccording to the efforts so far, the replacement of the petrol is unsuccessful.(the replacement of the platon with cheaper material is unsuccessful) On the contrary, the text insists that the hydrogen will reduce the money that is spent on the car.这段有几个关键词没听出来。

The professor uses three points to refute the opinion in the reading passage that Chievalier's memoir isn't accurate.

First, the reading passage states that Chievalier was not soso wealthy as he depicted in his memoir, because he borrowed money from merchants. Nevertheless, the professor says that because he often attended to parties and gambling, he might not have enough cash. wWhile his he could change his assets check was changing to cash. ,So, it is reasonable to borrow money from others.

Second, in the reading passage, the author says that Chevalier didn't write precisely on the conversation with the famous writer Voltaire, because time has passed for many years, Chievalier cannot could not remember it. However, the professor challenges that Chievalier recorded the conversations all the time, and kept the habit of writing diaries for many years. In addition, a witness who lived with Chievalier hcan could confirmapprove that Chievalier always referred to his notes and dairies when he was writing his memoir the connection between Chevalier and Voltaire is very frequently.(False!!!)

Finally, contrary to the reading passage that Chievalier escaped from the jail by bribing the jailers instead of making a hole in the ceiling to escape, the professor says that other prisoners had more powerful background than Chivealier, and evidence showed that the ceiling had been repaired.

The professor uses some points to refute the opinion in the reading passage that fuel-cell engines will replace the internal-combustion engine.

First, the reading passage presents that hydrogen can be extracted from lots of sources (优点), such as gas and water, but petroleum has limited resource(缺点). Nevertheless, the professor challenges that although hydrogen can be derived from wide range area, hydrogen should stay at pure liquid state. Turning the hydrogen into this state is not direct(理由一). Also, pure hydrogen is difficult to store.(理由二)

Second, in the reading passage, the author says that internal-combustion engine can produce carbon dioxide, which is harmful for the environment.drawback And, fuel-cell engine's by-product is water. (merit)However, the professor casts doubt on that the
process of making pure hydrogen also should spend a lot of coal, which also can pollute areas. (
理由一)

Finally, the reading passage states that fuel-cell engine is twice efficient than the internal-combustion engine. And people can spend less money because fuel-cell engine requires only half of the energy of internal-combustion engine.merit On the contrary, the professor says that this is not true, because one main component of the fuel-cell engine is platinum, which is rare and precious in the world.(理由)

Tpo-10是个大杯具

In the lecture, the professor confutes that the predation seems more likely to be the cause of the decline of sea otters. She presents the following three reasons to explain.

To begin with, the professor claims that nobody has found dead otters washing up on the Alaskan coast. However, if the otters are killed by the pollution, we will find many dead otters on the beach. On the other
hand, it’s hard to find dead otters, because if they are killed by predators, they will be immediately **(这里是immediately sold吗?实在听不清!!)Thus, the statement in the text that the pollution causes otter’s decline, seems to be false.

Secondly, the professor holds the opinion that the predators cause the decline of all the sea mammals. Wales are often hunted by humans, so that orcas have to change diet to survive and they may eat small sea mammals. That’s why the number of all the sea mammals declines. On the contrary, the text says it is the pollution that makes all the species decline.这段实在没听懂,那个orca还和otter弄混了,以至于想了半天也不明白为什么是otter(orca)
whale…

Finally, the professor claims that the location of otter makes an easy access not to be polluted. Because otters are not large so that they usually locate in rocky places where pollution can.听错关键词以至于自己都不能圆场了,删掉,全错。The professor states that what happens to otters rely on whether the location is accessible to orcas. Orcas are large, so that they cannot access to the shallow and rocky places. However, the shallow and rocky locations are the places where the population of otters has not decline. That is totally different to the text.[这段又是orcaotter混了,还把populationpollution混了,结果整段都混了,杯具。。。]

总结:
听力很致命啊!!!!
只听1遍,我后两个观点编都编不出来。
我还是听了好几遍才补充完整的

The professor uses some points to refute the idea in the reading passage that the declination of sea otter is caused by pollution and predators.

First, the reading passage states that water samples in the otter's habitat are revealed that there are high concentrate chemical pollutions, which is harmful for otters. Nevertheless, the professor presents that there is no evidence of dead otter washing into the shore, and if predator have eaten otters, the population of otter also can decrease.no matter otter are effected by water pollution or the predators.

Second, in the reading passage, the author presents that other sea mammal's population also were decreasing. That is to say, other mammals also affected by pollution. And the predator may be humans, because orcas always like to eat large animals. On the contrary, the professor challenges that orca also can eat small animals, such as otter, seals and sea lions, because large whales are all hunted by people..

Finally, the reading passage says that otters' population in certain locations are not declined, that means pollution is a factor of impacting otters' population. However, the professor presentepresents d another idea that in fact, otters always stay in the shallow water, which cannot be accessed by orca, because orca's body is too large. And the sea otter populations are not delined.

The professor uses some points to refute the idea in the reading passage that
literature is declining.

First, the reading passage states that because people read less literature books than before, they will have less chance to get stimulate of imagination. Nevertheless, the professor presents that people also can read science, history, or political science books for intriguing their imagination, because those books also have high quality.

Second, in the reading passage, the author says that the level of culture is lowered, because people watch movie or listen to the music rather than read novel. In fact, contemporary culture can exist in different forms. A beautiful song and a fantastic movie also involve culture. And some of these creative forms may express more directly then the novel does. People can learn from them.

Finally, the reading passage presents that because of talented writer lack enough audience, publishers less favor the serious writers. On the contrary, the professor challenges that sometime it is writers' fault, because some author write too difficult to understand, so that less people would read them.

The professor uses some points to refute the idea in the reading passage that the teenager on the portrait is Jane Austen.

First, Contrary to the
reading passage that Austen’s family recognized this portrait is Jane Austen, the professor says that Jane Austin died 70 years before 1882, those Austen's family members haven't seen the real Jane Austen.

Second, the reading passage states that this teenager portrait is very similar to the portrait of Jane Austen in her adulthood. Nevertheless, the professor challenges that this teenager portrait may be Jane Austen's cousin, who are at the similar age as Jane Austen. Even some people assert that this teenager portrait is more like Mary, a distant relative of Jane Austen.

Finally, in the reading passage, during late 1780s and early 1790s, the portrait painter was active and only can be hired by such as Austen family, and Jane Austen also was a teenager at that time. However, the professor presents that stamps behind
paintings were sold by
a man called William. He said that he hadn’t sold any portrait during the years which was the time of Jane Austen’s adolescence. He only sell the canvases in the time when
(听力问题~~!) had sold this paint later than early 1790s, and at the time he sold this paint, Jane Austen was 27 years old. It is older than the teenager in that portrait.

The professor uses some points to refute the idea in the reading passage that selling and buying the fossils have disadvantages.

First, the reading passage states that if fossils are brought by merchants, people would have less chance to see these fossils in the museums, and it also would decline the public interests. Nevertheless, the professor says it may have merits, because public schools can buy these fossils through the merchants. This also can give chances for people to see.

Second, in the reading passage, the author presents that scientists cannot do further research, if fossils are in merchants’ hand. However, the professor says that when merchants get fossils, they should convey them to scientists to certificate their value and reality first. So, scientists can get to know these fossils.

Finally, the reading passage says that collectors often would not pay attention to the animal life in the past, such locations. On the contrary, the professor challenges that the most important thing is discover fossils. If fossils cannot be found until they disappear, knowing so much scientific source is useless.

To sum up, all points presented above are the controversial arguments between
drawbacks and merits of buying and selling fossils.
