TOPIC: ISSUE69 - "Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development"

Can scientists do whatever they want to research in any kind of area? The answer must be no. If scientists are given arbitrary power to make achievements in their fields, they won’t be able to concern about the development of the society at the same time. The claim of the speaker seems to be too absolute, which I cannot agree with. Government should strike a balance of the development of the science and the society.

First, if there is no restriction on research, scientists may over study something harmful to the society such as nuclear weapon and magnetic radiation because they may abuse money that gets from the government. Scientists need money to equip the most advanced machines, to buy a variety of materials to do experiments, and to refer a quantity of latest achievements. They can get money because the government approves their researches. If the government agrees with every research, scientists will always get money to do whatever they want. Even if they don't spend money on anything else, just on research, our life will be worse because the government have less money to improve the quality our life, such as widen our streets to reduce accidents and build more apartments to live in. So, there must be some restrictions on scientific researches to make sure our life will not be affected.

Government is the administration that can analyze our society on a whole perspective and from a long term, so that they should decide whether a research is worthy or not. The government is in charge of every department in our country, and they know in which aspect should be improved urgently. They also know well about how to deal with difficult issue, how to regulate every industry, and how to make a suitable decision for the sake of the most people. Because as for the government, the most crucial responsibility for them is to make the contemporary living condition better so that the majority will get welfare. And it is the government that acts as the role to distinguish what kind of research need to be going on so that the majority of people will live in a safer, happier, and healthier condition.


The more researches are good for people nowadays, the better living condition will be built by the government. Although the science is an important aspect on deciding whether a country is powerful or not, if the government not only improve the scientific industry but also develop our country, the people will feel really happiness. People all live in a comfortable environment, and they have a stable job for making money. They don't need to worry about the food every day at least. So, more and more people can make a contribution to the society in any area they are interested in. As a result, the society will be developed better and better as well.

To sum up, I cannot agree with the speaker that let scientific research do whatever they want. Restrictions are necessary to limit research, if not, scientists may do something dangerous to people. Only by the good management of the government can the science be developed into a wonderful direction, and then it can benefit both our lives and scientific area.

Can scientists do whatever they want to research in any kind of area? The answer must be no. If scientists are given arbitrary power （用词不当，Arbitrary power is like most other things which are very hard, very liable to be broken.） to make achievements in their fields, they won’t be able to concern about the development of the society at the same time. (上下文都不是再说一个东西了...这里有严重的逻辑跳跃。 前文强调的是：科学家无法同时考虑社会的发展，后文是：我不同意作者的看法.但是作者的看法并不是：“科学家可以兼顾社会发展”，而是“政府约束BLABLABLA”)The claim of the speaker seems to be too absolute, which I cannot agree with. Government should strike a balance of(between) the development of the science and the society.

First, if there is no restriction on research, scientists may over study something harmful to the society such as nuclear weapon and magnetic radiation（这里有不合理的地方，历史上nuclear weapon跟scientist是无关的，倒是跟government很有关，当时没有哪个科学家主动去研究weapon应用，只是提及了有武器化的可能性，然后被政府逼的...所以你的nuclear weapon并不能很好的支持你的反对意见。 BTW：magnetic radiation我不知道怎么危害society的，只是对individual倒是有影响。） because they may abuse money（这个是属于句式不熟练造成的错误，你的整个TS句的意思是：如果没约束，因为科学家会乱用钱，所以他们会研究对社会有害的东西。你看是不是乱七八糟... ） that gets from the government. As a result, the society will be developed better and better as well. （这一个整段都是偏题的，你如果要论述restriction对better life的作用，那么就应该是重点放在government的control上面，而不是就像现在这样讲人民的幸福是如何获得的，表现形式是什么...  另外光看这一段的论述，你对题目应该是赞成立场，但是你没有任何一点段落的过渡，就直接从上一段的反对意见到了这一段的赞成倾向，HOWEVER这种词都没有，让人很难把握你的真正立场是什么。）

To sum up, I cannot agree with the speaker that let scientific research do whatever they want. Restrictions are necessary to limit research, if not, scientists may do something dangerous to people. Only by the good management of the government can the science be developed into a wonderful direction, and then it can benefit both our lives and scientific area.

自己漏掉了很重要的逻辑，那就是government utilizes the research to build our society...
还说了很多废话。。

这题太难了。。想了好久。。
是在说政府、科研、限制的关系。。
其实我是想说政府还是应该有所限制的。
但是想来想去，中间阐述的部分，说说没有限制会怎么不好，说说政府限制的良好作用，就再也说不出什么来了。。说多了又怕跑题。。

最后要是再阐述下政府通过限制科研来建设社会发展的话，又觉得跟说政府限制的良好作用重复了。。
