40"Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem."

In academic field, whether scholars and researchers should carry out their social burden has become a hot issue nowadays. I concede that scholars and researchers’ own interests are significantly important, but one should also cares about whether its work makes a contribution to the larger society.
As the saying goes: One’s own interest is the best tutor. One with strong interest in a certain academic field will certainly be more dedicated and thus perform better. Most successful processors in my university reported it is the interest that impels them to finish the research. They also claim that in some academic field that is so abstract such as relative theory, basic mathematics and quantum, doing research is like entering into a dark cave and the only thing can light you is the interest.
Without interest, Albert Einstein would not be so focused on the unprecedented theory that originates what we call “modern physics”. Without interest, Watson and Crick would not collaborate together, trying so hard to find the double helixes structure of DNA. Without interest, John Maynard Keynes would not think deeply after catastrophic financial crisis and published the classic that laid the foundation of Macroeconomic. Almost every renowned scientist shares the same characteristic that is having a real interest in the field they study in.
Moreover, researcher and scholars’ individual interest, which sometimes may seem to be unusual and idiosyncratic, contribute to their academic success. Those successes will, at the same time, benefit the larger society. Einstein’s theory is beneficial to all society because thanks to his theory, scientist and technicians are able to develop mobile phones, computers and also find energy in nuclear; Keynes’s “The general theory of employment, interest, and money” has become the bible of authorities when they are controlling economy.
However, over emphasis the important of researcher and scholars’ individual interests while neglecting their social burden will cause problems. CNN reported that some of Iran’s talented biologists are hired by some firms with an extremely high salary, however their work is to develop biological and chemical weapons. Other scientists n European are also reported to try to clone people. This is terrible because for those researchers and scholars who has lost their social responsibility, the deeper their interests are, the greater harm they will make to our society, for their deep interest will lead to research results that is more evil and destructive.
To sum up, researchers and scholars should pursue individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem and carry out their social burden at the same time. The former will lead them to the summit of their research regardless of the hardness and the latter will prevent them from jeopardize the society.

a hot issue nowadays. I concede that scholars and researchers’ own interests are significantly important, but one should also cares about whether its work makes a contribution to the larger society. As the saying goes: One’s own interest is the best tutor (
状语从句单独成句?把AS去掉就行了). One with strong interest in a certain academic field will certainly be more dedicated and thus perform better.(和谁比较?) Most successful processorspredecessors in my university reported (that)it is the interest that impels them to finish the research. They also claim that in some academic field that is so abstract such as relative theory, basic mathematics and quantum, doing research is like (just as) entering into a dark cave and the only thing can(to) light you is the interest.
Almost every renowned scientist shares the same characteristic that is having a real interest in the field they study in.(全是例子?)
Moreover, researcher and scholars’ individualpersonal interest, which sometimes may seem to be unusual and idiosyncratic, contribute to their academic success. Those successes will, at the same time, benefit the larger society. Einstein’s theory is beneficial to all society, (because) thanks to his theory, scientist and technicians are able to develop mobile phones, computers and also find energy in nuclear; Keynes’s “The general theory of employment, interest, and money” has become the bible of authorities when they are controlling economy.(一句解释说明完了又全部是例子?)

However, overemphasis the important (importance) of researcher and scholars’ individual interests while neglecting their social burden (obligation or responsibility)
will cause problems (is unreasonable). CNN reported that some of Iran’s talented biologists are hired by some firms with an (the) extremely high salary, however (whereas) their work is to develop biological and chemical weapons. Other scientists n European are also reported to try to clone people. This(it) is terrible because for (of) those researchers and scholars who has lost their social responsibility, the deeper their interests are, the greater harm they will make to our society, for their deep interest will lead to (research) results that is more(
和谁比?) evil and destructive.
To sum up, researchers and scholars should pursue individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem and carry out their social burden at the same time. The former will lead them to the summit of their research regardless of the hardness and the latter will prevent them from jeopardize the society.
