TOPIC: ISSUE16 - "Although many people think that the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life are entirely harmless, in fact, they actually prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals."
With the booming development of science and high technology, people are living a more and more convenient and comfortable life nowadays. However, towards today's luxuries and conveniences, different people hold different opinions. To some extent, most of people claim that the present luxury and convenient life are completely wonderful. But there are some people holding quite opposite opinions. They think that the luxuries and conveniences are just harmful for the modern people to become truly strong and independent. As for me, I would side with the part of the former opinion. I think that human beings reap a great many benefits and become stronger and more independent from the luxuries and conveniences of the present life like the automobiles and computers when people use these high technological facilities properly. In order to support my opinion, I give the following reasons.
First, the luxury and convenient facilities help people improve the efficiency of their work, which makes the modern people truly strong and independent. Take automobiles and computers for example. Automobiles enhance independence in transportation, work and residence. Cars make it possible for people to travel anywhere at anytime without suffering the stuffiness of the public transportation. People needn’t waste lots of time on their way to work or home any more, which ensures them plenty of time to concentrate on their work. Computers contribute a lot to the high work efficiency and help people become much stronger and more independent. Before I had access to the computer, I felt quite dependent on others, such as my parents, teachers and classmates when faced with difficulties because I needed their suggestions and proper solutions. Now I can surf on the internet by using a computer, and find the solutions quickly. In addition, I always search various data and information that I want on the internet for my essay effectively without leaving my dormitory. Thus computers help me be more independent than before.
Second, the luxuries and conveniences in modern society serve to enhance people’s health. Thus people are much stronger, and they can live a more comfortable life. Advanced implements and excellent medical care account for people’s health and fitness. With the help of modern technology, people can achieve their accomplishments much easier and faster. Therefore, they have more spare time to relax themselves to some extent. Even they can do something that they like according to their interest. An easier and more comfortable life will undoubtedly improve people’s health and make them become stronger.
Admittedly, there are some people relying too much on the luxuries and conveniences of the present life. For example, nowadays, we often hear the news that some
adolescents are addicted to chatting or playing on the internet. Sitting too long before the computer does great harm to their health. Moreover, facing with a computer and just communicating on-line, maybe make people cranky and erratic, or have one dependent on the computer. Maybe the people who are talkative on-line but still can’t communicate successfully with others in the real life.
However, if people have a correct attitude to these modern luxuries and conveniences and use them properly and moderately, they will get countless profits.
All the evidence discussed in the above analysis warrants that if people have a proper attitude towards the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life, and use them in the proper way, they will certainly bring numerous benefits to people in the modern society. And only with these modern facilities can people become truly strong and independent in today's modern society.
