The statement above conceals that we can’t protect our happy life just by the law system, for some behaviors can’t be legislated. That is laws and the legal system can’t restrain every respect of our life. In the society, we can find that the moral criterion can restraint the behaviors, which not contained in the law, through the moral censure.
We are now benefit from the laws, which tell us what are legitimate behaviors what isn’t and what punishment will convict if we break the laws. Like a murderer who murdered an innocent or notorious man, for his break the laws and harm the stability of the society, he must sentence to be imprisoned. Someone who would defend the murderer might claim that if the victim is a really ruffian who always bully the others and in morality he did a better things. But I want to say that everyone is created equal, we can’t take other’s life not through the trial. If everyone do what he want the world may confused in just one day. Laws give us a criterion to observed and make our life in order.
But in some situations laws may have little effect if people are not illegal. Such as, in China, the law prescribes that every adult must take care of their old or infirm parents. In society, someone just give food and house to their parents, no concern and love but inhospitality or even curse. In this situation the old people can’t live really happy. But the law can do nothing in these things. In our daily life, there are someone who wastes the precious natural resources, like water, oil and so forth, with the excuse that they have paid for them and no rules have formulates that we can’t waste.
Whether moral regulations can settle all problems? That depends on whether all of us can to observe them strictly. For moral regulation is a convention that agreed by most people in the society, which guide us in the harmonious and prosperous direction, unlike laws which can compel you to obey them and if you violate them you will get relative punishes that have wrote in the rules. And you can have your own choice when come with moral regulations, no can reluctant you, the only thing you need to concern is whether the others would discuss your behaviors and whether you can abide that. Like the example about not really take care of their old parents, the laws can not do nothing more, but in the moral respect, every neighbor will talk about that or inculcate the young to respect old parents, and if you still do that then they would become estranged from the impenitent man and his notorious will spread out.
In sum, some moral behaviors can’t be legislated, the moral regulation can help to restraint them, but without the compulsory power, the moral regulations can just complementary the laws. But if we can make our laws more perfect and as the improvement of the population quality, I think in the future, our society will be more prefect and harmony with the help of both laws and moral regulations.
