“Anyone can make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction—in the other words, to make things as simple as possible.”


The speaker asserts that it is easy to make things complex while difficult to make things simple. In most cases I agree that the simpler the better and it needs more effort and courage to simple the things. While in some situation, we need to bigger and more complex things and this also need more sweat to do this.

In everyday life we want to do things as simple as possible. As the development of technology, our dream comes true. Now we can fly in the sky or even the outer space, we can transport quickly to where we want to, we can communicate with a friend in many convenient and humanized ways, we can study the proximate knowledge, and so on. In one words, our life are cosier, simpler and more convenient.
Behind the back of this simple life is the hardworking from generation to generation. In the mathematics, there are many formulas, which make our exercises easier to do, required much effort and courage for the mathematicians to abstract from the mass information. Now, many people have used computer to studying like calculation, you just need to push some keys which is very simple, but this took many specialists and scientists expend decades to join in the program to make it simple. Like washing cloths which many people are hate to do. So someone wants to invent a kind of cloths which can clear themselves and no need to drying, this will need much effort to do this, and if we want it can change into the model, what we like, by the simple way, I think everyone will love it. But to do this is very difficult and need more efforts than invent a washing machine.
Airplane is a more general kind of vehicle, now you can fly from Shanghai, a large city in China, to London, the capital in UK, need hours. But in the 19th century it needs days, in the 18th needs months. The airplane makes it simpler for us in transport. The man, who knew the history of plane well, can find that in the beginning of the planes, our human just simulate the birds, then use more complex structure, more advanced material, more comfortable design. And in the design it must consider more complex situation, which may seldom happened in real life, to satisfy the security need. That is the use is more convenient, the design is more complex. Like the EXPO, for so many people go to the small place, the security is a problem. Before inaugurate, the relative department must be consider different measures to deal with the emergencies, which may harm the visitors, even them will not happened. They must make it complex, and this also needs much effort, courage and energy to do it perfectly.
In sum, we want to life simple, comfortable and graceful. But to do this, we need complex approaches which is as difficult as simple the way. That is in different situation it need different efforts, we should not make the one swallow does make a summer.

(In general, I agree with the notion that complicating things is easier than simplifying things. And under many practical situations our job is to simplify issues at hand. However, in some other specific cases, to make things bigger and more complex is also a painstaking task that requires engagement and effort.)


In everyday life we want to do things as simple as possible (The opening statement is a little too broad, you should be more specific.). As the development of technology, our dream comes true. Now we can fly in the sky or even the outer space, we can transport quickly to where we want to, we can communicate with a friend in many convenient and humanized ways, we can study the proximate knowledge, and so on. In one words, our life are cosier, simpler and more convenient.
(This paragraph doesn’t give me much information as to why we should make effort to make things simpler. Instead of putting this at the beginning of your argument, I suggest you to embed this somewhere else as the background information.)
