144.According to a poll of 200 charitable organizations, donations of money to nonprofit groups increased by nearly 25percent last yeat,though not all charities gained equally. Religious groups gained the most (30 percent), followed by environmental groups(23percent), whereas educational institutions experienced only a very small increase in donations (3 percent). This poll indicates that more people are willing and able to give money to charities but that funding for education is not a priority for most people. These differences in donation rates must result from the perception that educational institutions are less in need of donations than are other kinds of institutions.

In this argument, the author claims that educational institutions are less in need of donations than are other kinds of institution due to a poll result that educational institutions get a small increasing in donations. To justify this conclusion the author points out those other nonprofit groups get a high increasing of donations. The author also concludes that to funding for education is not a priority for most people. The argument suffers from several critical fallacies.
First, the author assumes that the educational institutions get least donation than the other groups listed. However, the author provides no evidence for the assumption. The author must provide the total donations each groups got last year. Maybe educational institutions get far more donations than other groups last year so that it received even more money than other groups this year even if only 3% increased. At the same time , even if the rate of environment group and the religious group receive donation
increased more than educational institutions, it cannot be sure that the money they get is more than educational institutions get. Lacking of evidence about the total donation received in last year, the author cannot convince me.
Secondly, even though the educational institutions get fewer donations from charitable organizations, the author unfairly concludes that to funding for educational institution is not a priority for most people. However, this is not the necessarily the case. It is not the only way that educational institutions get support from charitable organization. People can fund educational institution in various ways, such as directly send to school instead of through charitable organizations.
In either event, the author could not justifiable rely on the mere fact that educational institutions receive less donation to support the claim that people not fund educational institutions first.
Finally, even assuming that for most people to support educational institutions is not a priority, the argument unfairly assume that they consider that educational institutions is less in need of donations than other kinds of institutions. However, the author provides no assurances to substantiate this assumption. Commonsense indicate me that different people has different destination on donating. Some people maybe support for poverty while others fund just follow their interests. For instance, people who have a strong belief in religious fund for religious groups undoubted. It not represents that they do not think educational institutions are less in need of donations. Without considering and ruling out this possible scenario, the author claims that less need of donation in education is dubious at best.
In sum, as it stands the argument is wholly unpersuasive. To convince me that educational institutions get less donations than other institutions, the author must provides clear evidence that the total donations each group received last year.
To better evaluate this argument, I would need more information about people's purposes of donating.
