TOPIC: ISSUE28 - "Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little."

I strongly agree with the speaker only to the extent that students should memorize facts only after they have learned things that can help explain those facts. But I do not think that students who have learn only facts have learned very little. Memorizing facts is crucial to learning and students who have learned only facts may not learn less than others.
Basing on our experience of learning through so many years, memorizing facts is crucial in the whole procedure of learning. It is our first assignment to memorize facts, so that we can fully understand the ideas, trends and concepts. When we grow up, we are encouraged to think independent, in this case, what's most important is grasping facts, so that we can learn to use what we have learn. When we have access to research, the key point is discovery and study of facts, so that we can get our own original ideas.
Without memorizing facts, people can learn nothing. That's because without memorizing facts, they cannot completely understand any ideas, trends and concepts, no mention application easefully. It is true that memorizing is the basic ability of students, but it needs to get a sense of what the point is before we really memorize it. As a student of school of mathematics, I am facing countless theorems and definitions. If we choose to learn them without learning facts-instances, we will feel confused and lost in the dark. Furthermore, students in other fields found that facts are more important than theorems and concepts in textbooks. Generally speaking, we cannot learn something in-depth without memorizing facts and not basing on memorizing facts what we have learn is useless at all.

Admittedly, there are students who learn very little though they have tried to memorize facts. That's because they are lost in memorizing facts and fails to understand what they are taught that help explain those facts. Since they have not a comprehensive understanding of facts they want to memorize. In the end their facts turn out to be easily forgotten and meantime, they grasp nothing they want learn. The problem has its spring in the way people memorizing facts but not the method learning by learning facts.
What's more, learning only facts not necessarily means learn little. That is to say learning facts completely is adequate to guarantee learning their objects. Memorizing means In-depth study and understanding for the reason that an earnest student will not accept something as a fact before it is verified and sink in, let alone memorize it or learn it. In this sense, once students memorize a fact, he or she has learned relevant knowledge at the same time. So, memorizing facts is not only a good way to learn but also a way to enhance learning ability.
In summary, memorizing facts is crucial to learn, and also a good way to learn. Students who learn facts may not learn less than others. What's more, if properly used, learning facts only is a way to promoting the developing of learning ability.

但是个人认为此篇issue希望人们论证factsideastrendsconcepts之间的关系,而此文说到这点时显得蜻蜓点水,窃以为关系论证需加强~~个人观点,可能理解有误~

2# Ocean~Spray 关于你说的independently, 用的话是错的。
关于你说的对题目的理解,我认为这个题目说的是一种学习方式的问题,不是以facts, ideas concepts之间的关系为重,虽然也离不开。
还有就是一边倒是我比较喜欢的方式,我也很明确的知道死记硬背facts不是很好的学习方法, 我的方式就是把memorizing of facts更加广义化,朝着对我有利的方向说。
