The fast renewing technologies have dramatically changed people’s daily life all over the world. It is undeniable technologies influence social customs and ethics, but whether technologies determine social customs and ethics remains a topic of debate. In my point of view, social customs and ethics are not the determinant factor of social customs and ethics.

Technologies influence both social customs and ethics. Firstly, take some examples in the social customs aspect. Contrasting with old days, TV broadcastings are playing important roles in some social customs. In Chinese people are getting used to watch Spring Festival Gala in the Eve of the Spring Festival while in old days people might choose other games instead. The Spring Festival Gala add more jovial element. Not mention the world wide activities like World Cup and Olympic Games are more dependence on the TV broadcasting, which helps gripping the whole word. Secondly, in the ethics aspect, people change moral standards with the changing standpoint in their minds. Some technologies improve our living standards, which influence the ideas and mores of the time. Since the invention of the toothbrush encourage people clean their tooth everyday, talking with bad breath could offend other people nowadays. Artificial insemination is almost accepted to the masses. Thus, the changing of social customs and ethics is affected by technologies.

However, social customs and ethics do not hinge on technologies because the social customs and ethics are finally determined by human beings. Firstly, the same technology might cause different feedback in two different nations. In some nation, whose people accept homosexual, welcome the technology of artificial insemination, thus homosexuals could have their own babies. However, in some less opened nations, the case is opposite. Secondly, some mores are deep in our mind and technologies are too weak to shake them. My respect for my parents will never change because of some technologies. Lastly, social customs are various around the world. Even in the same country, social customs change a lot from area to area. For example, people hold the worshiping ceremony for the Buddha in the Buddhism wide spread area, while in western countries people who believe in God is doing other worship.

In addition, some times social customs and ethics restrict the development of technology. The typical example is the cloning human beings, which dangers people’s existing moral standards. The technology is mature; however, the carrying on of it remains a topic of debate.

In conclusion, technology influence social customs and ethics and social customs and ethics could in turn restrict technology. Technology is not the determinant factor of social customs and ethics, which are formed very complicated than we expected.

Technology is an application of science and philosophy is a part of science. Technology can be an application of philosophy. The philosophy changed people’s mind and indirectly changed the culture and even costume and ethic.

Since the human being's history started, technologies have been playing an significant role in both men's life and working. Actually, from my observation, technologies can only influence, not determine social customs and ethics.

Technologies, the application of science, have gradually become the necessity in people's life. Consider, for instance, tools and machines invented to help peasants produce more with less time. The Industry Revolution brought a huge amount of advanced machines, which would take the place of labor forces. It is technologies that make our life much easier and more comfortable, so people have more time to enjoy the fun in the world than people in ancient times. Internet, TV and mobile phones are all product of the development of scientific technologies, which make people getting closer and keep in touch with each other at any time. Nowadays, human create more value within less time with the help of technologies. As one of the treasure of human ourselves, technologies was initially a tool used to change the world.

While doing great contributions to the society, technologies surely cast a shadow on the social customs. Plenty of innovations have brought great convenience to social life. Now people use telephone calls more than letters when sending a dinner invitation; young people make friends through the Facebook or other internet-based communication tools. While people are accepting the favor from technologies, our habits are changed by the impact from them.

However, the assertion that technologies also determine social customs doesn't seem amenable to the fact. The social customs of a nation were determined by several factors dealing with various fields at the same time, not technologies only. As mentioned above, people now used to sending invitation through technological communication tools, but in the western world after the wonderful dinner, a thankful letter, not a thankful phone call, from the guest is preferred. Trips are always amazing, but travelers want to send the beautiful postcards to their friends from another land, which couldn't be replaced by several photos and words sent by emails. A nation's social customs are a series of conventions that are dissolved by the factors in the field of nature, epoch, technologies and so forth through the enduring course of history. As a result, social customs couldn't be decided by merely technologies.

On the other hand, ethics are a set of moral principles or values different from social customs. Ethics get influenced by technologies less than social customs, let alone determined. In every human being's heart, ethics help to make out right and wrong, to which technologies could hardly do a favor. Look at the residents in the wild jungle around the Amazon River. Their lives are totally natural and healthy, and the technologies used are definitely far more lagging than those in the developed countries. Nevertheless, the ethics in that area shouldn't be judged by the developing degree of their technologies. Actually, matured and developed technologies sometimes add disadvantages to social ethics. For example, Cloning technology has been a heated issue since the latter part of the 20th century. A new ethical dispute upon "cloning human or not" emerged in most fields, and the answers from different nations and races haven't come to consistency. While technologies is helping us construct our beautiful life, what we are supposed to
remember is to insist the true and valuable criteria to balance what is wrong or right, not to let the modern technologies cover our conscience.

Technologies on earth are the application of the knowledge of science, which is the true spring that boosts human's civilization. Whatever technologies have given rise to, cereals, machines, tools, Internet or new born, those must serve the growth of human society. Thus, people ought to instruct social customs and ethics advance to the right side under the impact of technologies, and away from the disadvantages they bring.
