TOPIC: ARGUMENT135 - The following is a memorandum from the business manager of WLSS television station.
"Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increasingly more time to covering national news and less time to covering weather and local news. During the same time period, most of the complaints we received from viewers were concerned with the station's coverage of weather and local news. In addition, several local businesses that used to run advertisements during our late-night news program have just cancelled their advertising contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to our news programs and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should expand the coverage of weather and local news on all our news programs."

For fear of losing more viewers and advertising contracts, the WLSS deceded to expand the coverage of weather and local news on all the programs the television station provided. However, such suggestion was grounded on the fact that the complaints of the viewers were mainly about the weather and local news and the cancellation of the advertising contracts was not because of the complaints of the viewers.

First of all, the fact that WLSS increased more time in covering national news was not the point which the viewers complainted about. The viewers are dissatisified with the coverage of weather and local news and this dissatisifaction could because of the problems ocurred in the coverage itself, such as the inaccuracy of the weather forcast or imapproprate dressing or speaking of the local news program hosts.

Secondly, it could be many other reasons that conducted the local businesses cancelled the contracts with WLSS. The fact of complaint of the viewers might be one of reasons but the argument didn't display any data about the possible decreases of the viewers' acceptance, which has a direct connection of the affects of the TV advertisement, of the news program.  It means weather the complaints have impacts on the advertisements was uncertain. The reasons of withdraw the advertisements could be traced back to the businesses themselves; they might changed their business plans.

The conclusion of expanding the coverage of weather the local news was based on the limited information. The argument was open to doubt.
