TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
The author claims that truly education should pay more attention to cultivate interests of all the students. That is to say, personal interest is more important than study all the subjects in the school. I fundamental agree with the speaker that interests play a crucial role in the society, if someone is interests in some field, he will probably put it over in this field. However, it is impractical to impose this advise on only develop interest, education will become truly effective, after all, learn in the college or university is the orthodox education.
To begin with, interest is a power which can promote study. Nowadays, in some schools, the subjects are uniform for every student, so it appears such a situation, if some students do not like some courses, they will absent from these courses and concentrate another thing which they like best. Mostly, teachers or parents do not allow it, they hope children should learn all the subjects what teachers passed on, very few cases, children can gain encouraged by teachers, and sometimes, this is a key of students to be a success man. Isaac Newton, the founder of modern science, who discovered the famous universal gravitation. In his adolescence, he studied not well, but he was concentrated on reading and devise and then, though these machines are very simple, however, his interesting on scientific exploration was aroused, and it is continued when he studied in Cambridge University. Afterwards, this interesting influenced his life. In a sense, interesting helped him to be a great science.
Whereas, nowadays, most occupation need people grasp multiple techniques. They want their staff not only doing very well in their professional field, but also have ability to help their workmate in different field. So, this is the function of school, they teach students many difference kinds of courses, avoid the problem that they only comprehend one or two things, even though these are their interesting field. On the other hand, it is too difficult and impossible for the educational institution to meet the individual needs and interest. First, faculties in school are limited, and schools have no measure to meet each student’s needs. Second, students are too little to understand what are they interest, because interest can always change in one’s life.
To solve this problem, teachers in the school should find and develop children’s interest consciously, because most students are not aware enough of the fact that what their interest are, they always do not know why they must study all the courses in the school, and why they can not do something they love. Therefore, schools could set up some optional courses, then students can choose the courses which they like. Therefore, everyone will have a chance to learn their interesting field. Besides, students also do not ignore the major subjects any more.
In sum, interest is important in one's growing process, it can always help a common people to be special. However, society also needs generalist, and this is the educational institution’s responsibility. In my opinion, both of them are need encourage, and the education in the school to learn more courses is essential way.
