Issue2
Competitionis ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society.
(1) Competition is everywhere, both in the society and outside in the field. With the pressure of competition upon us, people sometimes feel frustrated and tired. Yet what should we do for this? Is the competition in oursociety much too fierce and should we restrict competition?
(2) Competition the basic law in nature. Those animals get their rights of tasting food and produce offspring from winning the fierce fight against the surrounding, fleeing successfully from the predators and beat the rivals of the same kind. Only those strong and lucky ones could survive andnone have disturbed the laws since the very beginning.
(3) The efficiency and propulsion that competition has brought us is necessary to our society. The lack of effective competition mechanism in China in theearly years of 1960s has resulted in a depression in production due to the lackof motivation of the workers. Many huge enterprises are faced with accusation of monopoly. The reason why monopoly is restricted is that once a company gets to the position of reining some field of products, the company could define the prices. What’s more owing to a lack of pressure from other competitors, in order to save money the quality of the products could not be guaranteed and theleaders would be reluctant to develop new types of products. To maintain itsposition, the reining company would never tolerate a competitor, buying and pressuring the small ones. In the end, it is the masses that would suffer from such a great bill for the low quality products. So monopoly is strictly forbidden by laws for most domestic countries.
(4) From the aspects mentioned above we come to the conclusion that competition is necessary for an efficient society. However, competition without any restrains also results in undesirable results. In the field of software, free market has produced Giants like Microsoft, Sun, Oracle, Google and thelike, each dominating a branch of software. That is no restrain to competitioncould also lead to no competition. Someone might argue that we should follow the Nature. And the Nature never set boundaries to its creatures, so should we. However, it has been proven by Zoologists that each kind of animal have their own laws, for example the ants, bees and the wolves. They all have their own strict rules for hunting, immigrating and reproducing. Moreover, Nature is not manipulated but she has a system that is so complex as to maintain subtle balances. Those who break the laws of the Nature or the nation are punished. When wolves eat up the rabbits and deer in a mountain. The wolves would have to consider moving away, because of no food any more. On the other hand, our society is different from any kind of other animal. It is clear that no other species is threatening us directly and we, the human beings have the power to destroy the planet. We have to be the driver of ourselves otherwise we could fall into the irreversible route of self destruction. Competition of unclear weapon controlled powers could bring about a horrible future. Even if we ignore the possibility of modern nuclear wars, fierce competition especially illegal and immoral actions, which is under cover of winning from competition, have created unnecessary waste of lives and resources for example the massacre and slave trading. From what has been argued above, it is clear that we should restrict competition to a proper degree.
(5) Competition is a thing that is inevitable and necessary, yet wehave to control it. |
