How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
The assertion claims that the children determine the destiny of society, but we failed in teaching children to bring about a better society. To some extend, I agree with the assertion's general claim the children determines the futhre of a society, but I think it is a really arbitrary assertion to say that we failed in teaching children. My agreement and contention with the assertion involve the fundamental and deep analysis as discussed below.
On the one hand, I have to admit that the assertion, although suffers from some obvious flaws, has some merits and the implicit rationale behind it accords with common sense and our experience in daily life. After all, children are going to take over our society in the future. A great idealogist, Zedong Mao, also known as Chairman Mao once said to the children "the world bolongs to us, and it belongs to you as well, but eventually in the future, it will belong to us." So it is the children who will determine the future of society. Sofaras to the relationship between the children and the society, I agree with the first part of the assertion that how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society.
On the other hand, I have to point out that the assertion overstates the relative significance of failed examples of children education and overlooks other successful cases. Firstly, I have to concede that there are quite a lot spoiled children in today's society, especially in China, a one-child society. Some of the spoiled children do behave terribly when viewed from a social perspective, they don't care about the news of the nation or the community, don't like to help others, regard themselve as the center of the whole world, and refuse to grow up and get involved in the society. However, the mere fact that there are some spoilde children does not necessarily mean that we have failed in children education as a whole. There are still a lot of successful cases. Like in China, many yound students are really very enthusiastic about social affairs. The large number of young students who volunteered to assist in teaching in under-developed areas and to provide service during the Olympic game is very sound evidence that some children do help bring about a better society.
Besides, it seems to early to find out whether we have failed in raising children because children will change dramatically as they grow up to adults gradully. Children are likely to rebel their parents and teachers, who seem to be a representation of the society, when they are teenagers, but they will understand their parents, their teachers and the whole society as they grow up. Then they will feel pleasant to get involved in the society and they will probably become persons who can contribute to the society.
In sum, it is quite obvious and undeniable that the children determin the future of the society, however, it is really complicated to evaluate the social education of the children nowadays. As far as I am concerned, since there are both successful examples and failed examples of children education, it is rather arbitrary to deny the whole education. Furthermore, I believe that children do change during their growth, and through our unremitting efforts we can help children to become persons who can help bring about a better society. |
