题目：ISSUE138 - "Only through mistakes can there be discovery or progress."

In recent years, the topic of the value of mistakes is so hot that people varying from personalities as well as backgrounds tend to observe this same issue from diversified perspectives. A widely accepted viewpoint claims that it is a mission impossible for us to get discovery or progress without mistakes. Although I'm not pleased with the feeling of being a critic, I would rather to stand on the opposite of this standpoint and reckon that the stake may be too high to afford provided that we put too much emphasis on the advantages rather than the disadvantages of mistakes.

First of all, I have to concede that a person who is afraid of making mistakes can hardly get true success. As we are living in such a highly competitive society, the ability of finding opportunities plays a significant role for every individual in his career life. However, only seeking for chances is useless without grasping them, and risks are inevitable during this process in most occasions. If we choose to be conservative for preventing mistakes, those who are braver than us may thereby steal the opportunities which ought to be our belongings.

Nevertheless, radical decisions without any deep consideration are more terrible than being too careful to large extent. You only fail to get things that with needless hesitation, but you may lose things you used to own by silly adventures. When I was choosing my high school after I got my grades of the entrance exams, a portion of my scores may be therefore wasted if I choose a relatively ordinary school, however I would lose the opportunity of continuing my school work in case my score is too low for the school I had applied.

At last, it is not necessary for us to make mistakes by ourselves. I am not going to overlook the importance of direct experience, but sometimes we don't have enough time, energy and recourses to try again. Supposing that you are a manager of a new founded company, and you received an invitation to join in a business which needs your company to take out all of its funds. Of course the expected profits are large temptations, but you are not sure if this business would be an undoubtedly beneficial one and you would lose everything together with your colleagues if the result is not as well as expected. You may feel that you are a gambler at that time; the only difference between you and normal gamblers is that you have not capital to try again. You can comfort yourself that you have learned something from the failure, but few guys in this cruel world tend to show tears instead of spits to a loser.

To sum up, though mistakes can be valuable for us to gain experiences, it is unreasonable to deny that they are still something we don't want to face with. The wiser choose might be learning lessons from other's mistakes instead of making them by ourselves.

第一段我觉得provided that可以直接用if，比较简洁，provided that好像也没有表达出什么特殊的含义。
第二段for preventing是否可以考虑用in order to avoid
"those who are braver than us may thereby steal the opportunities which ought to be our belongings" 写得太精彩了，赞一个！
but you may lose things you used to own by silly adventures也很赞~~
但是这个选学校的例子和discovery和progress似乎联系不是很紧密。
倒数第二段的例证很好。you have not capital似乎应该是no capital吧？
You can comfort yourself that you have learned something from the failure, but few guys in this cruel world tend to show tears instead of spits to a loser.会不会太极端了一点？

另外结尾处有though mistakes can be valuable for us to gain experiences，这里应该用though还是although，这两个词的用法我一直都不太确定……
