Dear Ms. Kahn,
I am ***, a graduate student of Institute of geology and geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. I am quite interested in your department Ph.D. program. However, my GRE score, because of lacking of adequate preparation, is very low (Verbal Reasoning: 350; Quantitative Reasoning: 790; Analytical Waiting:2.5). I am wondering whether this score meet the requirements of your department? If not, whether my TOEFL score or other materials can offset the low GRE score?
Thank you! I am looking forward to your reply!
Best,

We consider every application in its entirety - scores, grades, statement, transcripts, letters of recommendation. It is not uncommon that a student will be admitted if one piece is lacking as long as the other pieces are competitive. I would encourage you to apply.
As part of the process of applying, however, I would encourage you to be in contact with faculty in our department with whom you share research interests. You can learn about our faculty online here: http://geography.wisc.edu/faculty/index.htm
