Is there no justification for society to make great efforts to save endangered species for the reason that in the past many species have become extinct because of natural processes, as the author asserts? I fundamentally disagree with the author's opinion, even though it is nature that made these species extinct in the past. Nowadays, however, many species are going into extinction at a more fast speed, certainly caused by human actions, and it does have meanings for us to protect the species at the edge of extinction.

Admittedly, myriad of species have become extinct because of the natural process, such as climate change, cosmetic reasons and so forth, which can be easily explained by natural selection theory. Dinosaurs, once the dominant species on the earth, have become extinct in a short period, the reason for which is not sure-- some claim that it is because of the huge climate change that these dinosaurs could not adapt to, while others assert that a small planet crashed into earth that made dinosaurs extinct. No matter which explanation, it is a nature process, but not human's.

However, in modern days, the speed of species extinction is all the more increasing, due not only to natural process, but also to human's interference, and probably the latter accounts more responsibility for this fast speed. Nowadays more and more industry plants have been built up in order to promote the well-being of the whole society, but ironically, it is these plants that pollute our air, contaminate our water, which serve the function of making our life even worse than before. No doubt, ecology system will be affected and even may be destroyed if we do not pay attention to the environmental problems. The species, relying on conditions of the environment, are definitely going to die out because of the great changes in their surroundings. Take rabbit fish for example, it is a kind of fish that live in Chang River in China, quite rich in number during last century; however, few can be seen today because many plants, near the Chang River, are pouring the contaminated water into the river, and thus fish of this kind are killed by the toxic in the water.  Moreover, over killing is another factor that accelerates the extinction. In short, human now should be more responsible for species extinction, rather than nature.

As mentioned above, we should make great efforts to protect these endangered species from extinction. I have some reasons for this claim. First and foremost, more and more species have become extinction at a more and more fast speed, which is not an evolution process, and this will certainly give rise to some problems. As we all know, if the extinction of a species follows the natural selection, there is no problem, but the situation nowadays is not what we expected--humans break the ecology system. For instance, human over kill a species, resulting in the extinction of it, therefore, in the ecology cycle, there will be a breakup. Take cats and mice as an example, if all the cats died out, the mice will have no enemies ever since, and undoubtedly mice will proliferate at an amazing speed, and thus a catastrophe happens. Secondly, not only for ourselves, but also for our offspring, we should protect these endangered species; otherwise, our sons and daughters, or grandsons and granddaughters can only see a species in photograph, which is really a pity if it really happens. So we should take on our duties to save these endangered species.

In sum, despite of the fact that many species became extinct in the past not because of human, but now it is, so it is time for us to take on our responsibility to protect these species that are threatened by the extinction.
