Issue 153: Students should bring certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively

I agree to the speaker`s assertion that skepticism is an appreciable spirit in the process of study, because questions helps us understand knowledge better and lead mankind to new scientific discoveries. If we accepted what teachers taught us without doubt, civilization would not had any progress. However, over-questioning to would not help students as well as mistrust to teachers.

To begin with, students also should be skeptical in their class. Only through asking questions can students understand the knowledge more comprehensively. For instance, if a student ask why when he learn that heat can be passed from hot object to the one with a low temperature, he will do more experiments and borrow books to find out the answer. Then he will obtain some more background knowledge and remember it not only as principle of physics, but also a fact checked by him. If a student only recites a formula word by word, he will not be flexible in examinations and will not able to deduce more conclusion based on it.

On the second place, Skepticism helps students to have achievement in the future and make contributions to mankind. In the history of science we can see that nearly all new achievements are the gifts from questions. Copernicus questioned the prevailing view of universe that all celestial bodies including sun and moon revolved around earth, then curried out his sun-centered theory which contributes profoundly to all the realms of science. Charles Darwin did not believe creationism and after series of experiments and researches left us evolutionism which not only became the fundamental theory of modern biology, but also had a great impact on philosophy afterward. Questioning is important to human being. Only questions inspire us to do research, so being doubting about the acknowledged facts helps to new discoveries.

However, undue skepticism is not beneficial to one`s study. Questioning is a good quality, but if a student doubts about everything, he will not go any further on his study. For example, we are all taught that ‘one plus one equals two’. If someone asks why the result is two in his first grade, his teacher must be confused too and cannot give him the answer. Although scientist also do researches on this topic, a first-grade pupil is not able to understand it. We need to admit those axioms.

To sum, skepticism is a good quality of a student without which the student certainly will not comprehend knowledge well. All the great discoveries of science also would not had bee achieved if we only passively accepted what we are taught. Nevertheless, undue questioning is not beneficial to anyone.

Issue 153: Students should bring certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively

I agree to the speaker`s assertion that skepticism is an appreciable(是否可以换个词) spirit in the process of study, because questions helps us understand knowledge better and lead mankind to new scientific discoveries. If we accepted what teachers taught us without doubt, civilization would not had any progress. However, over-questioning to would not help students as well as mistrust to teachers.(语病 over-questioning to做主语是什么意思over-questioning mistrust to teachers???)

To begin with, students also(前面是to begain with,而这里用also.似乎不对。) should be skeptical in their class. Only through asking questions can students understand the knowledge more comprehensively. For instance, if a student ask why when he learn that heat can be passed from hot object to the one with a low temperature, he will do more experiments and borrow books to find out the answer. Then he will obtain some more background knowledge and remember it not only as a
principle of physics, but also a fact checked by him. If a student only recites a formula word by word, he will not be flexible in examinations and will not able to deduce more conclusion based on it.
(这个。其实我觉得就算是recite word by word也能be flexible in exam。我们不就是这么过来的么。)

On the second place, Skepticism helps students to have achievement in the future and make contributions to mankind. In the history of science we can see that nearly all new achievements are the gifts from questions. Copernicus questioned the prevailing view of universe that all celestial bodies including sun and moon revolved around earth, then curried out(什么意思?Curry是咖喱,讨好的意思,没有找到curry out的短语) his sun-centered theory which contributes profoundly to all the realms of science. Charles Darwin did not believe creationism and after series of experiments and researches left us evolutionism which not only became the fundamental theory of modern biology, but also had a great impact on philosophy afterward. Questioning is important to human being. Only questions inspire us to do research, so being doubting about what the acknowledged facts helps to new discoveries.

However, undue skepticism is not beneficial to one`s study. Questioning is a good quality, but if a student doubts about everything, he will not go any further on his study. For example, we are all taught that ‘one plus one equals two’. If someone asks why the result is two in his first grade, his teacher must be confused too and cannot give him the answer.(这里是讲学生问1+1=2的问题无意义,而你句子的主语是teacher,似乎没什么意义)
Although scientist also do researches on this topic, a first-grade pupil is not able to understand it. We need to admit those axioms.
这一段好像没有准确地点出 纠结为什么1+1=2,对于一个小学生没有好处在哪。
To sum, skepticism is a good quality of a student without which the student certainly will not comprehend knowledge well. All the great discoveries of science also would not had bee achieved if we only passively accepted what we are taught. Nevertheless, undue questioning is not beneficial to anyone.
