The following recommendation was made by the Human Resources Manager to the board of directors of the Fancy Toy Company.



　"In the last three quarters of this year, under the leadership of our president, Pat Salvo, our profits have fallen considerably. Thus, we should ask for her resignation in return for a generous severance package. In Pat's place, we should appoint Rosa Winnings. Rosa is currently president of Starlight Jewelry, a company whose profits have increased dramatically over the past several years. Although we will have to pay Rosa twice the salary that Pat has been receiving, it will be well worth it because we can soon expect our profits to increase considerably."






In this recommendation,the author claims that owing to the considerably fallen profit in the last three quarters of this year,the present president of the Fancy Toy Company,Pat Salvo,should be asked for her resignation.In the mean time,the author also claims that Sat Winnings will be asked to this position because of the dramatically increasing profit of her served company,Starlight Jewelry.This argument rests on a series of unsubstantiated assumptions,and therefore unpersuasive as it stands.



First of all,the fact that the falling profits of the Fancy Toy Company is bound to the leadership of Pat Salvo,lends to no support to the argument.Perhaps an economic crisis occurred this year,people have no spare money spending on toys;perhaps an international prestigious toy company goes into operation in this area and take parts of the local market;perhaps in the first quarter of this year,the profits fallen even more considerably than in the last three quarters,and so forth.Given these conditions,Pat Salvo may have done nothing wrong even a good job.It is biased to ascribe the fallen profit to the leadership of Pat Salvo.



Secondly,even assuming that the fallen profits is on account of the misleading of the president.Changing a president will be unnecessary and irrational in case of correction of command and the stop of the falling.If the president of the company is dismissed,there will be a huge personnel reshuffle which lead to an astable and chaotic situation.Therefore,the author should think twice before having the specific and comprehensive evidence showing that the president is deficient in the management and strategic-making ability.



Thirdly,even if Pat Salvo must be turned out,the recommendation relies on the additional assumption that Rosa Winning is qualified for the work.The increasing profits may not be related to Rosa Winning.What's more,from the information above,there is a wide gap between the boundaries of the two company, the Fancy Toy Company sold toys and the Starlight Jewelry company sold jewelry.The differences of prices ,customers' consumption levels,sales patterns and so on varies so considerably that Rosa Winning may not handle well.Additionally,there may be more people who are outstanding and capable enough to supervise the company than Rosa Winning can not to mention the expensive salary Rosa Winning earns.


In conclusion,the author has no convinced me that Pat Salvo should be asked for her resignation,because of the considerably fallen profit in the last three quarters of this year and the company should hire Rosa Winning for the increasing profits in the several years in the Starlight Jewelry company. To better evaluate the recommendation,I would need more information about the impacts of the presidents' order,the market condition during the last quarters of this year and so forth.The author must also provide clearly evidence of the management and strategic-decisions ability of Rosa Winning .
