No.130 how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
According to this statement, what decides future development lies in the capability of socializing of children, who are not ready to build up better society because of lacking in this ability due to the adults. To some extent, I tend to agree with the speaker as long as socializing is indeed exerting an essential influence upon children¡¯s growth and their future career. However, the speaker has overlooked some other important factors, which undermines the validity of this statement. My acceptance and contention with the speaker involves profound analysis as follows.
In the first place, we should never downplay the significant role socialization has played in people¡¯s lives. Rules of socialization instruct children how to communicate with others, which is indispensable for establishing and consolidating collaboration; they will teach people how to make compromise, which will benefit a long-lasting relationship and facilitating the construction of harmonious society; they will also motivate people to make eloquent arguments, which will make a big difference in politics, business and many other fields. It is traumatizing to imagine what children have to suffer without sufficient manners and knowledge of socialization. Thus, undoubtedly speaking, grasping important rules of socialization will surely facilitate children¡¯s process into pursing their careers and ideal lives after graduation. I think no better illustration than an example. When doing business trade with foreign copartners abroad, it is necessary to liaise and further their relationship through mails, in which many skills of communication will maintain an important role. It is not so much the intelligence between two dealers as manners of socialization that will dominate the negotiation. Which party can acquire a satisfying price to its own advantage? Which party can gain its initiative in the field of packing terms, shipping terms and many other fields? Which party can obtain more guarantees in this transaction? All these problems are to be resolved in the battlefield of socialization. Without sophisticated skills, it is nearly impossible for businessmen to make any profit.
However, conceding the importance of socialization makes no indication that other significant factors can become subordinate. On the contrary, deprived of some other qualities, such as creativity and industriousness, students can hardly make great achievements in their future. Obviously, the cultivation and development of a person is a process of combination of diverse kinds of characteristics and qualities, which may extend respective effects in various fields. For example, the sense of creativity impels children to push their innovative thoughts forward and courageously put them into practice aimed at being the catalyst of social advancement; a sense of industriousness calls for students to spare no effort to stick to their pursuit and reach their final destinations regardless of impediments they have to undergo. All these factors that people entails to sustain in this ferocious and highly competitive world are beyond the bounds of socialization. Therefore, only when children are fostered and equipped with these qualities may they have a chance to determine the lot of the society.
In terms of education to invest children with these qualities, it is indisputable to assert that parents and schools have already taken necessary methods to accomplish their missions. At home, parents have imparted some basic communicating rules to their children; at schools, students usually have access to numerous activities, associations and internships with a view of grasping pragmatic skills of socialization. Moreover, diverse kinds of competitions, such as math contest, programming contest (the so-called ACM) and other subject-related ones will kindle incomparable creativity hidden at the bottom of children¡¯s hearts, stimulating them to initiate their own explorations in boundless sea of knowledge, during which children are inclined to spare no effort to strive for the fruit of success. With these invaluable qualifications, children will exert their intelligence to the utmost, contributing to the society tremendously. Needlessly speaking, children have already been provided with a colorful platform, on which they are free to bring about a better society.
Due to the aforementioned reasons, it is safe to arrive at the conclusion that society has already rendered adequate possibilities for children to develop comprehensively for the purpose of building a better society, not only in the field of socialization but also in other far-flung fields. On the other hand, people equipped with multi talents are the ones that will push society forward. |
