On one hand, the artists are the persons who give the vitality of the works, so our ordinary life can be such a wonderful one. They observed the negative aspect of our society, life, mind and would make use of their weapon—their works—to express their attitude and concern for the future. For example, the great author, Dickens wrote the famous friction—“a Tale of Two Cities” to reflect the great revolution—“the Great French Revolution”. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” this paragraph expressed his opinion to that period of time: It was complex and special times. He cried out his own standpoint, wishing people’s reply for it. The novel even gives us inspiration nowadays, which is what lasting value means.

On the other hand, the critics guide the ordinary people to enter the inner of the works. The artists create pieces of works which need to be appreciated and admired if they deserve that. We are lack of the ability and taste to distinguish the level of works from high to low, thereby the critics who hold the taste and ability look so important for us. A qualified critic is a person who can list the pros and cons of works impersonally and accurately and provide clearer image of opus. Critics actually have more important effect that they can pick up the diamond from sand, a very, very glaring one. For instance, Jin Shengtan, the famous critic in Qing Dynasty, whose character of criticism is that he focused on the topic of the work and the way the author expressed it as well as concluded some fresh ideas based on the work. An opus could be more attractive after his remarks and is easy to be accepted by citizens. So the influence of a critic is so evident that we cannot deny its existence.

The artists and critics are complementary to each other. The artists write, paint or make some works, which are like the undiscovered continent waiting for its Columbus to present its beauty and unique. The critics play the role of this, exploring the worthy works to bring them to the public and share with mass. The masterpiece is always the corporate result of artists and critics, such as, Mona Lisa, Fate Symphony, etc. The master created them, and the critics discovered their value and led us to walk into them and feel them by our mind and hearts.

In sum, the work of lasting value is the product of artists and critics. They take effect in each other’s field for the common goal, which is providing us and our offspring the most amazing work.
