socialize的界定，儿童的社会化——儿童不仅要学习如何适应现有的社会（如：培养团队合作精神、容忍精神、对现有社会状况深入的理解），更要学会如何改造现有的社会，（如：敏锐的洞察力、非凡的创造能力等），而二者合力，特别是后者起着determine the destiny of society的作用。

2，对后半句的反驳。
1raise的界定，方式上，不单指不是手把手的教，是传授一种方法和思维方式。如：堆积木。

2主体上，不仅是家人的培养，还有整个社会环境的熏陶；
eg，学校的创办，正是raise children who can help bring about a better society的方式之一，小社会，和同龄人的相处，学习合作容忍，得到老师的传授，获取对现有社会的基本认识和改造社会的基本能力。

题目的言外之意，没有学会教孩子怎么样去建设一个更好的社会，就是以后的社会会不美好。低估了孩子的能动性，既然是他们改造社会，他们必然要有首创精神。就算没有我们主动的教，也会有孩子主动的学习。

3，总结


I strongly agree with the speaker’s claim that the destiny of society rests with how children are socialized, however, the claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can better society perhaps isn’t the truth.

When it comes to the word “socialize”, most of us think about how children adapting to the society existing now, it means inheriting the culture and ideologies, cooperating with other members and tolerating the different viewpoints of people from various backgrounds. Actually, the part that can determine the destiny of society is not the part of adapting, but the part of transforming the society, which requires the quality of acute perception, remarkably intense level of creativity.

Consider next the speaker's claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can better society. What we have to realize is that rise children doesn’t means the affairs of individuals,
only restricted to the family, but the responsibility and activity of the whole society. At ancient Greece, Plato set up the Platonic Academy, the school of philosophy, which is the the predecessor of the modern school. Today, there are schools everywhere , almost everyone can go to school, it is a general way to raise children. Children in the school get along with peers, learning about tolerance and cooperation, attend to their teachers, in which way they absorb the essence of human civilization and have a roughly understanding of the world around themselves. This can give children the basic individual qualities to transform the society.

What’s more, rise children isn’t teaching hand by hand, but instructing the way of thinking. Building a society quite likes putting up building blocks. When children play with building blocks at the first time, we’ll tell them how to play it not by building a complete one for them, but just tell them the regulations of the game, such as, you can’t put a rectangle onto a triangle. And then, erecting a house, is the children’s affair ,we have just done what we have to do, and that is the way what I think about raising children to better society.

Reading between the lines, the speaker's claim means since we have not learned how to raise children better society, the society are going from bad to worse, which is undoubtedly an over-statement. It is the children who build the society in the future, there is no reason to underestimate them. The world is changing every minute, only God knows what will happened in the next moment. We couldn’t teach children exactly what to do to better the society, no one is prophet, but we show them the way to a better society, that’s what values most.

In sum, it is needlessly to worry about what we have done to rise children is not enough. Children is the future, and we should place confidence in them. When they finish the elementary education, the society itself will tell the children how to develop it.
