1:有怀疑才有进步,怀疑找出疑问或可能潜在错误,修正问题。
2:怀疑激发人们兴趣,探索未知理论与知识。
3:但也应注意,不应怀疑过度。
With the complexity and diversity of problems we learn and face, which leave more or less questions in our mind while you really cogitate them from daily occupation to research or curriculum that workers or students taken. Once unsure things come up, people have intense desire to work it out with a reasoning solution. This is particularly manifestly between teachers or professors and students. It is no doubt one would have a better achievement if he or she rightly and moderately questions acquired knowledge. However, skepticism, while you are excessive addicted to them, would bring opposite influence in our life.
Skepticism plays undisputed role in our learning and in return promotes us making more progress. Desire for solving indistinct problems pushes us to spare no effort to find out persuasive answers, at the same time people would unconsciously find some flaws or potential errors among questions they study. Then these findings contribute to revise t former theories or conceptions. For example, Aristides, a famous scientist in Ancient Greece, thought that two objects of unequal weight and the heavier one would land faster when you throw them from the same height. However, Galileo don’t think so, he deny Aristides theory under a skeptical mind and untold experiments with truth of landing on the same time. Obviously, we could reap benefits if we deal with problems with skepticism.
On the other hand, skepticism inspires our interests on what we study and implore new knowledge from unknown realms. Interests is the best teacher, people would keep doing something as interests is along with them. Newton gives up with a girl for concentrating on their works and Archimedes goes on with his study when soldiers come to his house and kill him. And then both of them made unmatched contribution to society. Similarly, most of us can get expected fruit after plunging a mount of time and intent. Also, we couldn’t stay at fixed level or range all the time with our abilities increased. Unnaturally, more and more people begin to question the maxim or knowledge leaved by former sage while they learn them and create new knowledge and realms. The ramification of subjects, fact of entering universe, development of technology, are all reflect great innovation among diverse realms. So we have no reason to restrict skepticism according to its huge function and result.
However, we should pay attention to treat skepticism in a moderate way in order to prevent from extremely consequence. Skepticism, do brings a series of positive aspects as said above, but arises harmful effect if we are excessively emphasize it subsequently develop to suspicion. For students, their minds are full of suspects when they have classes or doing exercises. At last, they may not trust most knowledge showing on books and incessantly question them. In society, leader can’t trust his stuffs, employees begin to suspect each other, and even family members have suspicion among them. Lastly, we may fall in to panic and someone may goes into insanity without a degree to restrict skepticism. So it is necessary to establish a balance in skepticism instead of completely questioning everything.
In sum, it is advisable to insist skeptical spirit on our dealings, which definitely brings about a variety of contribution to our whole life, but we should also understand the dangerous aspects when we convert skepticism to suspicion. What we should do is using moderate skepticism to implore and revise more unknown and potential problems. (576) |
