Criminal investigators inspect crime scenes searching for evidence. Cautiously they comb an area looking for clues to learn more about a crime. In an office setting, where there are no murders or third-degree felonies, these same techniques can also be applied to an employee's workstation. _(1)_ Cubicles or work areas aren't just for working, but they serve as peepholes into the personalities of their inhabitants.

Sam Gosling, a personality researcher at the University of Texas, Austin states, "What's going on outside the mind reflects what's going on inside the mind." _(2)_ After studying hundreds of cubicles, Gosling discerned that the little touches that make these workspaces personal tell more about a person than meets the eye.

For instance, Joe's desk may be the tidiest in the office, without a photograph, coffee mug, or anything on it other than a stapler. Without saying a word, he is unconsciously stating to his employer that he isn't committed to his work. _(3) By not personalizing his space, he is showing that he'd quit if a better opportunity came along._ On the flip side, Mary's three-walled cubicle is her home away from home. Pictures of her family adorn the cloth-covered walls, her daughter's artwork is tacked up next to her monitor, and a well-tended plant is overgrowing its pot on the corner of her desk. _(4)_ This personalized space is telling the office and the world that she is there for the long haul.

The positioning of items, most notably photographs, can also tell about a person. If the photos are facing away from the employee, the photos are there for the sake of passersby. _(5)_ If the pictures are facing the employee, they are personal reminders of the ones they love. Neat or messy, personalized or not, office spaces provide a small glance into a person's mind. What does your space reveal about you?

　　Located on the West Bank (the western part of the Jordan River) in Palestine, Bethlehem is at the center of the world's three major religions. Jews, Christians, and Muslims all claim historical ties to this land. This city of about 60,000 is located only 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem near the Dead Sea. Since its establishment, Bethlehem, which means "house of bread" in Hebrew, has given birth to a vibrant and rich culture that is continually changing. Recent events in and around the area have given this city a name associated with suicide bombings and terrorist attacks, but Bethlehem is a treasure trove of religious history waiting to be reopened. It is most notably known as the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth.

According to the story, Joseph and a heavily pregnant Mary came to the city shortly before the birth of Jesus. As none of the inns had any room available, they were forced to seek shelter elsewhere. After riding on, they came upon a cave that was being used to house animals. It was here that Jesus was born. To respect the significance of this place, Constantine the Great built the Church of the Nativity in AD 330 above the cave. It is by far the oldest church in existence.

Though Bethlehem has gone through many difficulties that once turned it into a war-torn area, it will forever be known as the son of God's birthplace. Pilgrims will continue to make their way to this city and it will grow and strengthen as time goes by.

　　Scratching, pointing, typing, picking, eating, pulling, writing…Our fingers and their multiple capabilities are often taken for granted. On the other hand, lose one of your dutiful fingers and you'd quickly realize how important they actually are. Our fingers may also be markers for the way we act and react in our daily lives.

Pause for a moment and look at your right hand, more specifically your ring and index fingers. Is your index finger shorter than your ring finger? Or is it the other way around? According to researchers in Scotland and Texas, there is a link between the length of the index and ring fingers and the amount of the sex hormones you were exposed to while in the womb.

The average man's ring finger is slightly longer than his index finger. Men with long ring fingers have had higher levels of exposure to testosterone and may be more aggressive. They may be more skilled in sports and music as well. In some studies, homosexuality has been linked to a longer-than-average ring finger.

Women generally have ring and index fingers that are about the same length. Just as in men, a longer-than-average ring finger signifies a greater exposure to testosterone. These women tend to be assertive, forceful, and may exhibit homosexual tendencies.

Paul knows that death is knocking at his door and that there's little time left before he has to answer it. Georgia's husband passed away last year, leaving her a widow with a 10-month-old baby to raise. Spirit Talk brings Paul and Georgia together on their quest for answers. Paul is looking at death, while Georgia is searching for ways to communicate with her beloved late husband. Spirit Talk is just one of the highly acclaimed documentaries in Taiwan to the World on the National Geographic Channel.


Some consider pigeons a delicacy, while others see them as dirty nuisances. For pigeon racers, these birds are tickets to wealth. Enter the world of pigeon racing, a national sport that can make an enthusiast a millionaire. In The Pigeon Game, the spotlight is put on this lucrative sport and the 30,000-plus fans that enjoy it.


Few people in Taiwan like cockroaches. In fact, most people pull out a slipper as soon as they see one. Cockroach Confidential goes around the city with two experts on these creatures that have been around for 350 million years. Peter Lai, the founder of Ivy League Analytical English, lends his voice to this interesting documentary that can only be seen on the National Geographic Channel.


Butterflies are one of Taiwan's top treasures. Oftentimes they are marked so researchers can keep an accurate count of them. One afternoon, a marked Parantica Sita butterfly was found by a young butterfly-catcher. This isn't out of the ordinary except that the butterfly catcher was in Japan, some 2,000 kilometers away. Taiwan to the World also tries to uncover how this creature made the flight across the ocean.

　提示：

近年来，石油危机的问题倍受重视，专家正致力研发替代性能源。请写一篇文长至少120个单词的文章，表达你对石油危机的看法。

Recently, the global oil crisis has been widely reported. It is estimated that the world will run out of oil and other fossil fuels in the next few decades. As the supply is unable to meet the demand, oil prices keep increasing. Therefore, energy experts have been striving to find solutions. One solution is working with alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, or water power.


But for most of us, the above solutions are out of our budget. What we can do is economize on the amount of energy we use in our daily lives. The quickest way to reduce our usage of oil is to drive our cars only when necessary. The less we drive, the less oil we need. Taking public transportation can cut down on traffic and eliminate some of the pollution in the air as well. In the near future, alternatively powered vehicles will be available, which will help us with this worldwide crisis.

　　最近，全球性的石油危机被广泛地报导。预计接下来数十年内，世界的石油与其它石化燃料将消耗殆尽。由于供不应求，油价持续上涨。因此，能源专家一直在致力寻求解决方案。方法之一就是发展替代性能源，例如太阳能、风力或水力发电等。

I approve of the regulations that say high school students must wear uniforms. First, wearing uniforms makes students equal. It doesn't matter if they are from poor families or rich ones. The moon has been a source of wonder ever since man first looked upwards to take in its beauty. In the night sky, the moon is usually concealed by something other than clouds. _(1) This part that is invisible to the naked eye on Earth is where the sun doesn't shine. _ What we do see of the moon each evening is the section that the sun lights up, or illuminates.



The moon is a sphere that rotates around the earth as it travels around the sun. _(2) It takes the moon about one month, an average of 29.5 days, to revolve around the earth. _ Naturally, during the course of a lunar revolution, the view changes from evening to evening. There are eight distinct views or "phases" of the moon.



_(3)_ Although there are eight different lunar phases, our calendars typically list the most obvious four: New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter.
These phases are caused by the positions of the moon and the sun together in the sky. When the two objects are closest, we see the New Moon. It is during this time of the lunar orbit that the moon is practically invisible. _(4)_ When the sun and moon are farthest apart, the moon is full and bright.




Since no month is 29.5 days long, whatever phase of the moon that starts the month usually comes again at the end of the month. Approximately every 2.7 years, there are two Full Moons in a month. When this happens, the second one is called a Blue Moon. _(5) The expression, "Once in a blue moon," is derived from this rare occurrence. _ Shining bright in the sky, the moon and its many phases will continue to amaze all who look upon it.

At 6'8" and 210 pounds, Tracy McGrady has earned the respect and awe of many fans since making headlines as a high school senior. McGrady, also known as "T-Mac," was born on May 24, 1979 and grew up in Auburndale, Florida. As an unknown player at a high school competition, McGrady shocked the audience with a slam-dunk over the heads of several high school stars. When he was a senior, McGrady was named the USA Today Player of the Year.




Flying high during his last year of high school, he decided that college was not an option and welcomed eager NBA scouts to watch him play. In the spring of 1997, the Toronto Raptors drafted T-Mac. Fresh out of high school, he joined the ranks of other players that had gone straight to the NBA, including Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett.




T-Mac played well with the Raptors for three years, but his rise to success came when he transferred to the Orlando Magic in 2000. In 2004, McGrady was traded again to the Houston Rockets. During a pivotal game last season, McGrady scored 13 points in the last 35 seconds against the San Antonio Spurs, leading the Houston Rockets to a one-point win. This amazing feat was a spectacle to behold.




T-Mac, who also enjoys watching gangster movies and eating his mother's spaghetti, led the league in scoring for two seasons and now has the desire to win an NBA championship. T-Mac's achievements at such a young age have made him a true role model.
