TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

The essence of human society is actually to pursue the continual process of social development. From ancient times, through industrial revolution, finally to today's modernization, our society has experienced a rapid leap. This leap of society is resulted from a host of factors together, including children's socialization. And for further social advancement, education has to be emphasized, not only on scientific technology but also on moral quality.

One of the factors that influence the destiny of society is the extent to which children are socialized, especially their team works. Cooperative spirit now has infused into every corner of our society. For example, in any company, even if every employee has his own diveided responsibility, it is far from enough for the sales director only to know how to sell the new collection efficiently or maximize profits to a great extent. Although it helps to bring the company temporary revenues, in the long term, further prosperity may become inhibited. The sales director must harmonize with technology department which is responsible to the innovation of production and also propaganda department that is devoted to increasing the popularity of production among the public in behalf of the whole company. Similarly, society, just like a big company, also needs the strong cohesion of each department including industry, agriculture, electronics, etc. Such ability to cooperate with others matters so much for the unity and solidarity of society, and thus must be cultivated from an early age. So the unanimity of society is strongly relevant to whether children are able to fulfill tasks cooperatively.

Besides team spirit, there is a more remarkable element that affects the destiny of society, namely the pursuit of freedom and equality in society. With fetter from the outside world, one cannot behave naturally and perfectly with his mind obstructed and action restricted. So does a comfortless society. Only when an environment filled with liberty and fairness is established can society have the possibility to greatly step forward. For instance, Abraham Lincoln, who issued The Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, triumphantly abolished slavery for equal human rights and prohibited segregation in public accommodations as well as discrimination in education and employment, which in turn promote unity in America. The right of freedom and racial equality provides foundation for later multiracial collaboration in America, both technologically and culturally, which finally established itself the strong position in the world.

The destiny of society is influenced by both children socialization and social equality, but whether a better society has already been achieved is hard to say. What kind of society is eligible to be called 'a better society'? If we just define it as a society that possesses state-of-the-art scientific technology and creative innovation, our education system is totally successful because it not only imparts knowledge from generation to generation but also inspirits the advent of momentous invention. For instance, Robert G.Edward who was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his development of in-vitro fertilization, strikingly advanced treatment of infertility and substantiated the similar health statuses between IVF babies and ordinary babies. This tremendous achievement shocked the world and undoubtedly leads to a significant innovation in medical field. Even for infertile people, giving birth to their own children now becomes possible. With newly developed medical science and advanced Internet technology, high-speed transportation and efficient automation, we have fully realized our ‘better life’.

However, it is obviously incomplete to just evaluate 'a better society' at a technological level because a wholesome society should be rated from several sides. People's moral quality cannot be overlooked since it makes up the spiritual aspect of our society. However, even in a modernized society nowadays, teenager crimes, such as taking and trading drugs maybe just for seeking temporary satisfaction and ostentation before their friends, still exists, which severely hampers the pace of social development. Even though teenagers generally possess high educational level, how about their moral quality, psychological quality and even physical quality? The morbid growth of these qualities will lead to the unbalanced development of society which goes forward materially while lagging behind spiritually. Thus, there are still flaws in education system in our society at present.

In sum, we have to think over the destiny of society thoroughly since the society is integration of several facets instead of just one side. Education on teenagers' moral quality besides educational level should be emphasized more for the further steady development of society although technology has advanced rapidly during the past several years.
