The argument is well-presented, but not thoroughly well-reasoned. By making a comparison of a group of patients treated for muscle injuries, which took antibiotics throughout their treatment and recuperated quicker than typically expected, with the second group of patients who were only given sugar pills and believed they were taking antibiotics, the average recuperation time of which was not significantly reduced, the author proves the hypothesis that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain and suggest that all patients diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of treatment. This argument seems logical. However, the evidence lends little support to the argument.

First, the author is failing to consider the other possible alternatives to the quickening of the recuperation time of the first group. The possible alternatives may include the fact that Dr. Newland has other more effective and technical way to treat the patients that have muscle injuries since the doctor specializes in sports medicine, by contrast, Dr. Alton, who is just a general physician, may not as technical as Dr. Newland in treatment of muscle injuries. And that the average body constitution of the first group may be more advantageous than the second group's.

Moreover, the author only points out that the patients of the first group have muscle injuries which are not entirely the same as severe muscle strain , as for the second group , the author doesn't even tell us what kind of disease they were treated for. This lends no support to the hypothesis that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain. Similarly, it doesn't be proved that the patients of the two groups had the secondary infections. And the author doesn't tell us the connection between the muscle strain and the secondary infection. Is it easy for all the patients who have muscle strain to get secondary infection? Or just some patients will get?

In addition, more things should be taken into consideration before giving the suggestion that all patients diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics. What kind of antibiotics is used to treat the patients of first group? Will the antibiotics have the side effects? Can all the patients afford the expenses of this kind of antibiotics?

Overall, the argument has not convinced me that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain. Also, the author doesn’t persuade me to take the suggestion that all patients diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of treatment. To strengthen the argument, the author must provide dear evidences that the patients who have severe muscle strain is easy to get secondary infection, and that the antibiotics really help muscle strain heal quicker.
