The artist, who creates arts, is the person who directly gives lasting value to society. As for the critic, usually, their comments will be affected by many factors and, as a consequence, the critic may mislead the public. On balance, we should also notice the facts that, sometimes, the critic stimulates the development of the art. In conclusion, the artist gives more values to the society compared with the critic.

The lasting value given by artists is all in their work, which is the substance helping artists convey their mental worlds to the society. Without artists, there will be no fantasy work influencing the whole real world.
Through these pieces of work, such as music and paintings, we can, more or less, learn what artists are thinking about of great value. Take Beethoven, a great musician, who is well known to almost everyone as an example. From his unprecedented masterpiece called the Ninth Symphony, people heard his voice from his heart to fight against the fate. No matter how long it has been, the message which Beethoven wanted to convey to others remains the same and inspired next generations. This example well illustrates that the artist give lasting value to the society through the work and they are the persons who created value.

As for the critics, their comments are unavoidable affected by many factors and finally affect the public's view. The most common one is their own preferences of the beauty. This subjective view will definitely bias the objectiveness and somewhat mislead the public. For instance, Vincent van Gogh's paintings were regarded with no value in the eyes of the critics at that period of time, which finally lead the whole temporary society to disdain his work. It is because the critics like other kinds of painting rather than impressionism, which is Van Gogh's style. Moreover, besides the different preference, critics' ideas are also influenced by the money, which is a quite usual phenomenon presently. Here is a simple example. A critic may praise a piece of work if he/she receives the money from the author even though this critic has no interests in it at all and many other people may also change their previous views thanks to the critic. Thus, we can realize that there are many factors could influence the critics who can mislead the public.

On the other hand, we should also notice that the critic can stimulate the development of art in order to make more lasting value. It should not be ignored that the comments do help the artists to improve the quality of their work. For example, American Critics Choice Awards invites many critics to judge the films, photographs and some other kinds of art. Its results demonstrate the standard of high standing to the directors or photographers. That is to mean, these artists will make a change to improve the quality of work as the standard level. This is the reason why there are more and more great films and beautiful photos every year.

To sum it up, the artist gives more lasting to the society. In addition, the critic, who plays a role like a catalyst in the development, is also important if they can make the comments objectively.
