In the statement, the author asserts thatthere are two kinds of laws, just law, which we should always obey and at thesame time disobey the unjust one. At my stand, there are several conceptions weshould first clear up and then can we go forward to think about whether to obeyor disobey.
First turning to the function of law. As welive in a society that it's possible that we encounter with issues correlatedwith laws, but some of them are just as normal as we drink water, meanwhileother things are as big as to confront with each other in the court. The reasonwhy law has been created is that it helps people to regulate the society, guarantees the order and function of affairs between people, castigate the badand diminish the evil, and offer a harmonious and stable ambient for human toprosper and develop. It is every citizen’s responsibility to obey what the lawstipulates in order to assure everybody a legal place to live, work and love.Besides, rules of law should have its enforcement once they have beenestablished. They are set by a group of people by contemplating and observingvarious kinds of social affairs that everyone would come across in daily lifeand then come to a conclusion after discussion to regulate and protect peoplefrom harm.
Then turning to the definitions and divisionsbetween just and unjust. Every coin has two sides, so do laws. No one will seethe rules of law unconditionally just or unjust, for people always see benefitsas their first principle when dealing with daily affairs. A single rule of lawmay seems just to a person, on contrary may be unjust to another one when ithampers him from getting what he wants and in most cases accompanied with badintention. For example, the death penalty in some countries is absolutely legalfor they think it is totally fair to pay one life with another one, meanwhile,it's inhumanity because of some religious background or like that. People'sattitudes toward different things vary according to different circumstances andconditions. Decades ago, the marriage between same genders was regarded as eviland was to destroy the conventional structure of family and thus bring damageto the society. But with years of hardworking and processes of understandingand open-mindedness, people are feel much more comfortable and comprehensive whencome to homosexuality. Things change, so do rules of law.
As known to all, laws are created bypeople. To err is human, so do people who created and formulate laws, and lawsmay should have flaws and unjustness now and then. In ancient times, laws were formulatedby governors, it is obvious that the laws created by governors who only thoughtabout their own benefits and always tried to protect benefits of the dominatingclass. Thus, the laws at that time contains hundreds of terms saying thatnormal people should hand in their foods and money as taxes to their governors, that they should go and fight on the behalf of the country for certain reasonswithout concerns about the welfare and stability of their people. Because ofthe autocracy of governors, dynasties of nations have suffered fromdisobedience and rebellions, for people cannot afford such cruel laws and eagerfor better ones. But today, as we live in a modernized society and we arecivilized people, we have better and more comprehensive laws concerning thewelfare and stability of our country, we have other means to claim ourdissatisfactions to what are against to the rights of common people. People canarrange protest demonstrations, public speeches through legal and formal means, can people draw the governor's attention to his right. If we simply disobey thelaws we are not discontent with, we are actually destroying the harmony andstability to our nation.
In conclusion, people regard just andunjust variedly, but laws are laws, they are set to regulate our life and tryto be as comprehensive and just as possible. Laws are set by people and they canbe changed and reformulate according to rational and justifiable reasons, thuscan we build be better society. |
