What is the nature of education?Most people today think of the chlidren as a bucket ,into which ,the teachers are supposed to stuff all kinds of knowledge.Then ,what the chileren should do when they face the information?should they accept it passively?In my view, however, they should hold a certain skepticism to the information.
why should the children bring a certain skepticim to what they study ?The more we learn,the better we will live,won't we? Someone may argue.However, can we ensure that all the information inserting into the brain of children is useful and causing no harm?Common sense tell us that there are no perfect things in the world,so are the knowledge imparted to people.If a people learned something which is wholely wrong and he didn't recognize it, he would do something that not only is harmful to himself but to the society.For example, if a theft raised a child and told the child the fact that to be a theft is a good thing and shouldn't be shamed of it ,and in that case ,the child accepted the idea without holding a skepticism to it,the child would again follow his farther' way to be a theft and untimately violate the law.Moreover, skepting to the knowledge that has been proven before is a critical factor to stimulate the development of the technology because skepticism is the basis of innovation and the innovation is the driving force behind the development of technology.If Einstein had believed Newton's mechanics and had not questioned the correctness of it ,it would be impossible for the discovery of the theory of relativity.
Although we can't hold a superstition to the knowledge ,we should not playdown all the knowledge since some information still be of use to us.
what the true skepticism students should hold?As far as I am concern,our students should own a skepticism which can judge the knowledge .If the information is useful to us ,we should believe and practice it into our life while if the inofrmation will be harmful to us ,we should abandon it and avoid doing what the information say.Only in this way can the students make the most of the knowledge they learn and not be confused by it.
In sum,what matter most is not whether we should accept whatever we study or not, but if we have the ability to judge what other people teach us.
