本题中，otherwise应该做何解？MW里的解释有如下几条：

我觉得按①理解比较好，即arts以一种不同于别的学科的方式来揭示了隐藏在一个社会背后的观点和推动力。
列提纲方面，想和各位探讨下~

1.what are so-called hidden ideas and impulses of a society?
In my opinion, hidden ideas and impulses can be understood as the inherent spiritual aspect of a society, which can reflect the social reality deep-rootedly.

2.Above all, we should explain the way that other disciplines such as history,politics reveal the hidden ideas and impulses.

3.And about whether arts can reveal hidden ideas and impulse of a society, it's advisable to divide into two circumstances  to discuss.
Some art works just come from artists' personal and individual emotions, which is hardly brought to be connected with hidden ideas and impulses of society. For example, a song created by a singer just originated from his sad feelings after breaking up with his GF can't express anything about hidden ideas of society.

Besides, among those art works, some emotional paroxysms of the artist are derived from their strong feeling to the society,such as dissatifaction with the severe corruption, indignence with the inequality,etc. If  it is this case, it is reasonable to say these arts reveal the hidden ideas and impulse to some extent.

最后，关于文章中的具体例子，比如 painting，music，literature这些领域都有哪些作品能反映社会现实的，哪些仅仅是反映个人情感的，欢迎探讨。

6# 40687691 觉得otherwise理解成“以一种其他的方式”，副词，这样比较好。言下之意是一个社会隐藏的各种思想和动力其实除了通过艺术作品来表达外，还可以通过其他的途径来表达，比如游行活动、网络上的各种论坛、现实中人们的服饰行为等。
