The claim confirmedby the speaker can be dived to three parts, which is (1) technologicalinnovations have taken place over the past century; (2) war, violence, andpoverty are still with us; and (3) the overall condition of humanity is nobetter, technology cannot change the condition of humanity. In my opinion,although I agree with the (1) and (2) points, but I hold opposition to the lastpoint.
Just as thespeaker point out, the technology innovation have taken place over the pastcentury. From the industry revolution, many significant scientific discoveriesand inventions have been made. Edison invented the light, brings our life thebrightness even at night. Watt invented the steamer from when the efficiency offactory is significantly promoted. And in the 20 century, two importantinventions---computer and internet, make the word connect more closely. All ofthese invents both benefit us and bring trouble to us, such as lack ofcommunication, lack of doing sports, and too complex information, but it indeedmake our life different.
At the same timethere still a lot of people suffering war, violence and poverty. As long asdifference and misunderstanding exist, war and violence will never end. People livingin this word, are pursuing different goal with different belief, so it’simpossible to avoid our profits clash, when we will search a way to balance twoor more opinions. However, even some pacts were made to ensure these balances,there always someone think that they are treated unfair or they want to getmore profit, when war and violence are the most direct way. And as I claimabove, not all the pact cares about the interest of all people, thisunchangeable reality also lead to poverty.
However, ouroverall condition of past century, to a certain degree, is better than before. Thereason asserted by speaker to support his opinion concern the war, violence,and poverty, and I agree that these problems have not completely eliminated. Howeverthese problems are indeed decrease with our human’s effort of past years, andmore and more people have a relatively piece and pleased life. Educationenhanced successively also helps us to understand each other and acceptdifference of each other, so that make us avoid much clash. More importantly,the more and more complete medical devices reduce the mortality, enabling us tolive more safe and stable life. All this situation can prove the overallcondition of humanity have been promoted
In sum, although Iagree with the statement that technological innovation have taken place whilethe war, and violence and poverty also exist because it concern conflict of variousdifferent motivation from humans, the condition of humanity is actuallyenhanced and will keep on promoting along with the technology.
