I.
Position: Absolute freedom of choice is indeed an illusion.
A.        The values we cherish are actually instilled into us by the society.
B.        The society also determines the rules and institutions that influence every choice we make.
C.        However, it is still possible for us to reshape the values, rule and institutions we inherit from the past.

II.
价值观念不是选择的,是社会灌输的。
Rules & institutions predetermined, reshape environment

顺便聊聊天……

sigh……孙完全不是东方的风格,真不知道怎么在东方活下来的……
不过还是很有水平的就是了。
孙是远看很有风度,进看一塌糊涂……我上讲台找他,哇!吓了我一跳!难怪名字叫“远”……具体就不说了,嘿嘿
说道我上讲台找他的事情,sigh,一把辛酸泪啊,
我是想去让他帮我看看写的issue,结果 他给我签了个名,就忙别的去了……5555……

A.        Most people are physically restricted in a small circle for economic reasons.

C.        Admittedly, crisis forces people to reexamine their old way of life and their resources, enabling them to enlarge their “circle”.

II.
完全同意
physically restricted: economic reasons, technological reasons, and transportation.
宗教,文化,政治,moral, cultural, political reasons
crisis forced. Reexamine. resourse reliable. Enlarge circle.

Position: Praising is more effective than criticizing in motivating people to learn.
A.        It is believed that the deepest craving of human nature is the need to feel appreciated.

C.        However, praising at the expense of totally ignoring negative actions may prove counterproductive.

应该是需要有益的批评。(等于没说……)

观点应该是“喜欢……,不一定不喜欢……”
naturally follow new customs when entering a new culture.
Make and obey laws to maintain order of the society.
渴求物理知识。
Restriction and regulation are the preconditions of freedom.

I.
Position: Conformity does not necessarily destroy individual creativity.
A.        Admittedly, blindly conforming to established practices or theories prevents us from making creative breakthroughs.
B.        The advances in the history of science have demonstrated that the breaking up of conventional ways of thinking or practices leads to new inventions or discoveries.
C.        However, discarding all conventions is just as harmful as blind conformity.

I.
Position: There is good reason for us to accept falliblism, which stresses the vulnerability of all dogma, the significance of inquiry and experiment, and the future-oriented, eventual character of life.
A.        Empirical evidence demonstrates that what is commonly accepted as factual may turn out to be inaccurate.
B.        However, there is no need to mistrust any piece of information referred to as a “fact”.
C.        The best solution is to take an experimentalist attitude, remaining cautious about any piece of “factual’ information until it is proven true.

II.
Experimentalism 实验主义
让步:今天的事实明天可能变得不准确或者totally inaccurate.
没有必要怀疑任何背认为是事实的东西。
No need to mistrust any piece of information referred to as a fact.
对fact 持有open mind to anything that is claimed as fact or truth.
