1.2 独立
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Two persons cannot be friends if one is richer than the other.

It seems logical at first glance that people can only be friends when they share similarities in terms of social status and wealth. Yet, if we give it a second thought, we can find that friendship is based more on familiarity or shared values than on similar financial condition, and therefore people with various economic backgrounds are possible to become close friend as well.

To begin with, familiarity, more often than not, results in friendship regardless of difference in wealth. Examples proving this are too numerous to mention. It is common that people have close friends in high school or college whom eventually become their lifetime friends. Although some of them have proceeded along bright career paths and made massive amount of money while others may blocked by pitfalls and obstacles and can hardly maintain decent living standard, their friendship are still solid and unchangeable. Also in the popular soap opera show ‘Friends’, six people with distinct careers, and thus salaries, can gather as such a harmonious and sweet group. The familiarity among them acts as the glue to prevent the group falling apart. Again in the movie ‘the king’s speech’, with familiarity, even the King George the VI can make friend with a speech therapist. The evidence clearly proved that equal economic status is not a necessity to maintain friendship.

Besides familiarity, shared values can also bridge the gap between people with different economic backgrounds. A billionaire can make friends with a high school teacher for they are both into traditional literature, and a top executive in a world leading company can make friend with a nomadic painter as they are both captured by the charm of art. Since they value the same thing, they have a lot to talk about around the topic and subsequently the seed of friendship is sown. When it comes to people whom sharing a common interest, wealth difference is of negligible magnitude and cannot obstruct them becoming friends.

To sum up, there is no threshold of wealth for people to become friends. Similar wealth is not a requirement for the creation of friendship. Familiarity and shared values can easily break the block generated by wealth gap and make people with differentiate backgrounds close friends.

Besides familiarity, shared values can also bridge the gap between people with different economic backgrounds. A billionaire can make friends with a high school teacher for they are both into traditional literature,我觉得这些最好都能把人名说出来说成是真人真事的感觉会更有说服力 and a top executive in a world leading company can make friend with a nomadic painter as they are both captured by the charm of art. 1月3日 110402NA Doyou agree or disagree with the following statement? When you choose a university,是prefer毕业生就业好的,还是有famous professor

Both the job placement and information about faculty are among the most important factors that need to be thoroughly considered when one chooses universities. The former indicates the average career prospect of graduates and the later means the access to get in touch with the state-of-the-art research and thus get a broadened vision. However, from my perspective, choosing the university with fancy statistics about job placement is superior to going to the college with certain star faculty member.

Although world-renown professors are quite attractive for those who are attending college, yet, more often than not, students cannot utilize this precious resource well. Those star professors are normally too busy to pay adequate attention on undergraduate education. In my department, the famous professor, also the dean, always travel around for experiments, conferences and, sometimes, work in certain projects as temporary consultant. Due to his intensive works and tight schedule, the only thing he can offer us is one general introductory course and we have little chance to communicate with him. Besides, professors commonly specialize in one narrow concentration. Limited time and energy do not allow them to become expert in all research directions. Therefore, it is entirely possible that the star professor’s expertise does not match students’ needs or interests. In these cases, the professors, although are famous, can help little to the academic development of students which makes the choice based on famous faculty members an unwise one.

By contrast, a good job placement statistics always closely bonds to strong alumni and practicality based curriculum, which are of great magnitude in undergraduate education. Alumni network can greatly fuel the development of student’s career path. Those high-achieving graduates always want to give their future alumni a chance to jumping a rung of the ladder in their careers. Apart from that, a large portion of alumni are willing to act as guest lecturer and pass through their wisdom and tips leading to success to the next generation as a gift to the university. Students can definitely gain a lot from these resources. Also, a practical curriculum is significant for the valuable skills and experience students can gain from it. As the ability to apply the knowledge they have learnt in to practice are stressed in curriculum, students graduated from such university would be better-equipped and have more chance to survive and thrive in the future harsh competition.

I am not saying a strong faculty is valueless, nor am I suggesting that student should merely consider job placement as the one and only factor when choosing university. My point is that such job placement statistics is a more reliable basis for making the choice and a fancy job statistics indeed can to certain extent guarantee a bright future.

Both the job placement(就业安置的意思?貌似不太恰当,因为就业好的学校并不仅仅是工作介绍做得好) and information about faculty are among the most important factors that need to be thoroughly considered when one chooses universities. By contrast, a good job placement statistics always closely bonds to strong alumni and practicality based curriculum, which are of great magnitude(of+名词 = 形容词,很灵活,google了一下,be of great magnitude很常见) in undergraduate education. 1月4日 101009NA Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People can take care of their family members better when they livein big cities than in the countryside.

Which place is better to live in, city or rural area? It is a frequent topic of discussion and the anwer depences on each individual’s preference of lifestyle. Many enjoy the convenience of urban life while others cannot bear the hustle and bustle, the shriek of sirens and the endless car horns and thus choose to live a peaceful life in countryside. However, when it comes to taking care of family members, city dwellers do have several advantages over those people living in rural areas.

To begin with, education of young members is always a core issue to every family and in this respect, living in city definitely have superiority over living in less urbanlized places. With decades of effort of the government, now most cities have a integral education system to cater to the needs for students at every level, from kindergartens to graduate schools. Parents living in city would not face much difficulty to find an appropriate schools for their children in the city and therefore they can better take care for their children. By contrast, less education resources are available in rural areas. To receive higher-quailty education, children in countryside ,more often than not, are sent to boarding schools which means they can rarely see their parents in weekdays. Therefore, for young family members, living in city seems more favorable.

To the elders, rural life, quiet and peaceful as it is, can generate inconvenience or even endanger their lives. These senior family members need systematic medical care and such needs can hardly be satisfied in countryside due to the absence of large-scale and well equipped medical facilities. It would be a shame if the elderly family members have a heart attack while there is no decent hospital nearby. In cities, on the other hand, such dangerous circumstance can be totally avoided. By virtue of the abundant medical resources, senior citziens can nip their health problems in the bud by getting regular medical inspection. Thus, a family can better take care of the elderly members in city as well.

To sum, for both children and elders in family, urban areas are better places to live in for the resources they can enjoy.

To fulfill financial responsibility is an important part of people’s daily lives. In the society where credit is highly valued those who fail to meet their financial obligations or curb their urges to splurge can by no means live a high-quality life.
Therefore it is necessary to cultivate members of the society with the sense of financial responsibility and starting from the very outset can be a wise choice.

Children are likely to form the beneficial habit of managing money when they started at a young age. People’s values and behavioral disciplines are largely shaped during childhood and therefore children with the sense and ability of managing money usually can keep the habit for a lifetime. That makes childhood a perfect stage for parents to inculcate righteous method and sense of money management. Starting from managing their regularly paid allowance, children can, step by step, learn the saving and loading, budget managing and the use of credit card-all the essential skills for them to survive and thrive in the future as financially responsible human beings.

Besides, there are several bonuses for learning money management skills at a young age. Since these children need to calculate their incomes and expenditures frequently they normally has better academic performance in math among their peers. Meanwhile, by listing and recording all the reasons for spending money, they can develop their capacity of organizing information. It is common that those who have the habit of managing money have a well-organized lifestyle.

By contrast, without such sense and skills, teens might become the victim of bad financial habits. Due to the lack of early money managing education, it is now even a norm rather than an exception that young adults join the army of ‘moonlight clan’, use their earnings up at every end of month without savings. With such poor money managing skill, they might face serious money problems when emergency happens. The incapability in managing money also engenders the propensity of having a bad credit history, which would gravely threaten one’s career and life quality. Unfortunately, as their lifestyles and financial habit are already formed, it would take much effort to correct them. Through this we can clearly see the necessity of early money management education.

In sum, to embrace a financially healthy lifestyle when reaching adulthood, an early inculcation of money managing skills and sense is desirable.

痛苦的一篇啊。。。。。。这个鬼题目
Both wealth and social status are viewed among the diagnostic signs of success and therefore become strong motivations that drive people to work hard. The former guarantees a decent living standard and the later means respects from other people, both sound extremely attractive. However, for the majority of employees money weighs more than social status.

Admittedly, numerous people denigrate the pursuit money as fundamentally unattractive. They devote themselves to nobler goals-and more often then not become widely respected. Teachers, for instance, devote themselves to the education of the next generation, passing through knowledge and wisdom, and scientists devote themselves to the revelation of the ultimate truth of our universe. They devote themselves despite the relatively low salaries and therefore receive special titles and privileges accorded by the society as the signs for social status.

However, for the major portion of people, who suffer from financial pressures and have fewer motives in devotion, decent salaries are of great attractiveness. In every family, the children need to go to school and the elders need medical care, the tuition cost and medicine expenditure can be quite huge and pressing. Sometimes the circumstance can be worse, the family might even shoulder the house mortgage or car loan. When being plagued by such financial problems, it is natural for people to see making money as their one and only goal.

The young are also commonly influenced by such values. It is now a norm rather than an exception in universities that the highest-achieving students all choose such finance-related jobs as investment bankers, analyst in private equity teams or financial consultant in consulting firms. All of these are highly paid yet exhausting occupations. With these jobs, they have to work nearly 24/7, and have little time to bond with their family or even sleep. They care little about job satisfaction or social status and money becomes the only thing they valued.

I am not advocating materialism nor am I saying we should neglect social status and work our butts off to earn money. My point is that for the majority of people, it is unfortunately but true that chasing money is the mainly purpose of working due to the great pressure we suffering every day.
