分享一些GPED的信息——来自Program Coordinator

之前很奇怪给vanderbilt的director/小米发邮件从来没有回信...近来意外发现还有个coordinator...回信神速...

截取些内容贴给大家：

关于选课：
Students can usually take 2 courses outside the Department of Economics.  There may be some exception, depending on the student’s background—but usually two is the case


关于选PhD课程代替原有GPED核心课：
Yes, if a student has a very strong background, they may request permission to take the Ph.D. level courses.
If the professor approves, it is fine.  We usually advise students to be very careful about this because a lower grade in a Ph.D. course may actually hurt a student’s chances of getting into a strong Ph.D. program.  But, if you have the necessary background, it will most likely be approved.


关于placement：
Many students enroll in our program with the idea of obtaining a terminal M.A. degree.  Some students apply for Ph.D. in Economics and are accepted at a variety of institutions.   In addition, last year we had a student admitted to University of British Colombia (#1 or 2 program in Canada) for a Ph.. in Econ., University of Minnesota (Health Economics), One for Ph.D. in Economics at Purdue; one for Ph.D. in Econ at George Washington, etc.


关于program size：
Our target enrollment is 30 students per year.  Last year we had 31.  About 1/3 of the class was Chinese; however, 14 countries were represented in the first-year class.

感觉他家coordinator是所有master项目里面联系下来最热情最耐心的之一了。。。回复也很快。。。
不像有的。。发了N封都没回信。。
尤其竟然主动把placement贴给我。。真是很感动阿。。

你是打算就业还是继续PhD？
我觉得如果PhD，尤其是希望往经济/政策/教育/卫生发展，似乎还挺不错的
就业。。。真心觉得不是特别好的选择，鉴于国内也没啥大的名气

唉，如果本科毕业就能找到不错的工作，硕士毕业也差不到哪儿去，或者能提供一个更好的平台；如果本科毕业找工作困难，一个非top的国外硕士也不能让自己有更好的job placement，找工作关键还是networking啊。
