In the past people ate foods that was better for their health than they do today.

A recent online survey, conducted by Sina.com, China's largest portal website, shows that people nowadays spend 5 times more money than they do ten years ago in food buying. Aside from the rocketing product price in China, an online discussion on another issue is consequently triggered, with sharply risen volume, as whether the food people ate in the past was better than they do today. My viewpoint is that neither did people eat healthier nor unhealthier food in the past than they do nowadays. What really matters is the way they eat, or their eating habit.

Compared with the past, a conspicuous difference is that nowadays people are provided noticeably more choices in food than ever. With increasing efficiency both in transportation and communication techniques, food manufacturers are now able to produce and deliver their products more conveniently to consumers. For example, fresh banana and coconut from Costarica could reach to fruit market in Beijing within a week after harvest. At the same time, the latest development in agricultural technology enables vegetable and cattle to grow faster than ever, in order to better serve the society. Moreover, as more foreign companies enter in Chinese food industry, people are provided a lot more choices when deciding what to have for dinner.

However, more choices do not necessarily mean people eat healthier or unhealthier food. To a substantial degree, whether the food people eat is healthy or not depends on the amount of nutrient and calorie it contains. A Subway hamburger, for instance, contain a lot of vitamin in the stuffed fresh vegetables, as well as protein in bacon or chicken. By no means can we conclude that it is unhealthier than traditional home-made dishes in Chinese style, since they are made from almost the same raw materials. In other words, the foods people eat today are essentially the same to what they ate in the past. Thus, more choices of food do not equal a declining of food quality.

What does make a huge difference is people's less healthier eating habit nowadays. In the past, most Chinese have dinner at home, together with the other family members. There they are served with fresh and delicious dishes. The dinner is always accompanied with warm and delightful atmosphere. However, due to increasingly high work pressure nowadays, people tend to care less about eating. For instance, I have several colleagues who seldom go home for dinner. Instead, they eat instant noodles at workplace in most cases, which is not doing any good to their health.

To sum up, I believe in no difference between the foods people eat today and in the past. It is due to insufficient attention on eating habit that people seem to eat healthier in the past.

2月17日,机经独立作文
Since the society is developing fast, do you agree that people now are less happy or less satisfied with their lives than people in the past?

While technology is accelerating its pace in shaping a new world, many people begin to stop and ponder over this issue - are we happier than we were in the past? Based on my own experience and observation toward the others, my viewpoint is that people tend to live less happy life than they did in the past.

To begin with, I admit that nowadays technology is providing people with noticeably much more choices to live better lives. For example, with computer and Internet, people now could reach to their family and friend thousands of miles away within few seconds. They not only can talk directly to each other with micro-phone, but also could see each other's face clearly through video camera. The latest communication technique, which people already accept as normal, is totally inconceivable only a few generations ago, when people had no other choice but to rely on the delivery of written letters through post service, which normally takes at least one or two weeks. As it is with communication, so it is with transportation, shopping, tourism, and so on. Thus, technology does help in making life more convenient.

However, more choices do not necessarily bring more happiness. Although people are provided the convenience that they can reach to parents easily, statistics show that they call almost half less with smart cell phone than with old style stationary telephone, based on the most recent online survey conducted by Sina.com, China's largest portal website. The causes of this bizarre phenomenon, as I personally believe, might be that while being provided with great convenience, people are also captivated by other temptations brought by fast-developing technology. For instance, they might have spent too much more time in playing online video games with strangers, as many of my colleagues do. Or, they might be absorbed in watching the latest fashionable TV shows. Chances are that their parents and friends are always forgotten.

To be more frank, more choices always end up in a sense of lost and frustration, due to people's lack of skill in making a rounded decision. For example, my cousin had been a fairly good student, working very hard academically and good at outdoor activity, until he was given an iPad last year as a birthday gift by his grandfather. Since then, he began to play online computer games all day. All outdoor hiking and photography trips had been cancelled as well. It turned out that the last semester he failed several final exams due to playing computer games. At the same time, he has gained much weight. Certainly my cousin's case is not an isolated instance. In my life, I have witnessed so many similar cases.

To sum up, I strongly agree with the statement that people now are less happy with their lives than people in the past. While being provided a lot more convenience in everyday life, people are at the same time captivated by other temptations which are not so pleasant. Moreover, to a substantial degree, more choices always end up in lost.

我觉得第一段最后一句,应该是 live a less happy life ---------这样就在语法上合理了,这里的life是一个总的概述,应该可以 用a

Young people have no influence on important decisions that determine the future of the society as a whole.

There are many people who hold negative views upon this issue as whether young people have influence on important decisions shaping the society. However, I personally believe that young people does have influence that could determine the future of the society as a whole. My reasons are listed below.

First, whether the society could function well or not in future is substantially dependant on the well-being of the young. Politicians all realize this natural and basic principle. Thus, when making annual budgets, governments are placing much emphasis on the education of young people. Moreover, every year many politicians, who are not satisfied with the governments' planning, urge to budget more for schools and other infrastructure service that could benefit children.

In addition, the young generations' needs are highly valued by various non-profit and non-governmental organizations. According to a set of official statistics released by Chinese government recently, NGOs that oriented to help children take up 37% of total numbers in China. What is more, money donated by philanthropists to teenager education in rural China has tripled in the past five years. Actions of these NGOs and NPOs, widespread and flexible as they are, are making a huge difference to create a better future for society.

Another trend is undeniable that young people nowadays are expressing themselves more than ever. New media based on Internet, such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, all are fashionable attractions to young people. While using these tools to connect to friends and having fun, they do show their opinions towards the latest social issues, with sharply risen volume. Certainly their voice could not be neglected by decision makers from upper level. A few months ago, several dozens of middle school students in Shanghai signed their names in an online campaign based on Sina Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, that they demand less homework assigned by school. A serious discussion was triggered then, quickly rippled to national level, and has not stopped yet till now. There is possibility that the online campaign waged by students would end up in a series of education policy reform in future. With increasingly more young people speaking out, this latest campaign originated from Shanghai would not be an isolated instance.

To sum up, I believe that young people, since they are young and have a splendid future before them, naturally has the influence toward government and NGO, who always make decisions for the future. Meanwhile, their voices are heard more often and more laudly, thanks to the fast-developing media.

本次作业在30分钟完成,另有5分钟检查修饰

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement. Parents should allow their children to make mistakes and let them learn from their own mistakes.

A most recent online survey, conducted by Sina.com, China's largest portal website, shows that 78% of parents confess that it is hard for them to watch the children make mistakes while standing beside. An online discussion was triggered then, with sharply risen volume, as whether parents should allow children to make mistakes and let them learn from their own mistakes, or help children hand by hand to fix the problems. My viewpoint is that parents should let children make mistakes in most cases.

It is through making mistakes that children begin to grow up. For example, a newly born baby would find great difficulty in standing by his own feet. Before managing to walk by himself, he would fall over to ground hundreds or even thousands of times. Every time he fails to stand up, he tries to work harder on it. It is no doubt that without the numerous times of failure, a baby would not be able to stand up and walk on their own feet. As it is with babies, so it is with children, who always find difficulty in learning. Mistakes, painful and cruel as they are, are actually very helpful and indispensable to children’s growth.

Parents who help children too much in avoiding mistakes might create opposite effect in the long run. Too much help from parents would spoil children and make them feel afraid of making mistakes. Whenever encountered with troubles in future, instead of fixing the problem by themselves, they might call the others for help, since their ability in dealing with complex situation is not practiced or well developed. Chances are that they would be less confident than their counterparts who are more independent.

It should also be noted that parents should offer immediate help in certain cases, according to different situations. For instance, there are many children who are caught stealing or injecting drugs. In these serious and urgent cases, parents should never hesitate to interfere. Otherwise, the cost of the children’s mistakes might be too much to afford.

To sum up, I agree with the statement that parents should allow children to make mistakes in most cases. However, certain mistakes that are fatal or too expensive should be avoided very immediately, with parents’ help.
