The statement presents two opposite sides of the viewpoints concerning education. While some regard education as a path leads to freedom of mind and the spirit, some others put education as a restriction of this freedom. In evaluating the true value of education, we can't deny the fact that education presumptuously put those theories and equations into our brain, and to some degree, force the students to remember them without further explaination. But we can't either ignore one virtue of education that it also teach us how to look back to those seemingly incontrovertible authority and make efforts to challenge it, to improve it or alter it to its correct course. In fact, what I am doing now, reflecting education's pros and cons, is truly one of the essences of education's ultimate goal.
Though we have endless complaints about school education, though we have such enthusiasm attacking the current system of education, we can't say we learned nothing from it. In fact, we cannot imagine a better way to inherit knowledge flows that have been passing along through wheels of time. Education consists of the foundmental part of our knowledge system in ways maybe unconsciously. Put it this way, we don't even notice since when can we buy things from a supermarket and calculate the exact money we need. It makes no sense that this kind of ability is some innate gift. Instead, we get it from no merits of anyone else but from education. Furthermore, algebra later becomes a necessity that few people can say that they can survive without it. Education lay foundation in peoples minds helping people to buid intellectual superstructure.
Education is a progress which is painstaking but also reward promising. The best one is the ability to think in a logical way and with advanced study, we can even make a judgment whether things we learn are right or wrong. Without education, theories become eternal truths and eqautions become unbreakable doctrines. Education only conveys these theories and equations, but it stops from here. But genuine ignorance is ubiquitously seen in those people who simultaneosly halt with it. Restriction of thouhts and spirit is not a legacy of education but sincerely ignorance. We know from history how back in medieval time, people got executed only because they hold truth threatening the persistence from church. Education has this methodology that everything is in a pace of changing and everything is not perfect. It not only allows people to challenge it, but even to reverse it. Correct and to be corrected is the pervasive situation of every known fact. In this sense, education encourages free of mind and spirit rather than being inimical to it.
In a lager scale, the knowledge and methodology education brings about consistently stimulate people to either improve the well-being of the whole human race, and sometimes even proliferate into subjects like philosophy which solving ultimate problems concerning the meaning of life, of existence. Illuminate people as education does, it provides sea of thoughts deep to people's heart and sky of spirits high above the heavenly grace.
